We need to stop and take a hard unsentimental look at how we are reacting to racism in this country.

If the politicians and the media are to be believed, only the whites are guilty of racism, so we are being beaten over the head with the concept that white Americans are holding back the advancement of the black race.

Racism is universal here and all over the world, and it lives in the human heart, not in flags or symbols. Black racists are encouraged by black hate-peddlers such as Al Sharpton to be active and vocal about their hatred of the white race. As a result, whites cower in shame, feeling guilty about slavery and Jim Crow.

We are allowing a wipe-out of southern history in the belief that removing all reminders of our Civil War dead will miraculously bring peace and harmony between the races. It won't. With each concession we make, more will be demanded.

President Obama, in his soaring eulogy at the funeral of the Reverend Pinckney, said, "Americans must fight racial hatred and poverty." It was a speech heavy with condemnation of his country.

We are fighting poverty--it's called entitlements, affirmative action, and a host of other government programs, but poverty and ignorance still exist and they always will. There was no government help for those of us who grew up during the depression of the 1930s. We endured, with strength enough , and national pride enough, to fight and win two world wars. But that's old history isn't it, and we have moved past it, the same as we should move beyond slavery and segregation.

There's a wise old saying, "lf we keep on doing what we're doing, we'll keep getting what we've got!" If we keep electing presidents and congressmen who expand entitlements and continue inciting hatred between the races, we will no longer be a great nation.

After the horrific killing of nine innocent people in Charleston, our leaders in Columbia reacted as puddles of mush, bending in the wind of commiseration, they quickly made it apolitical with no reasoning and no thought of tomorrow.Their hasty action will provoke more racism and it will be to their shame. They have nothing to be proud of.
