The Great Adjustment
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Two weeks ago, The Times Examiner published its last full sheet hard copy newspaper. The Palmetto State conservative family newspaper is now all digital and available on the internet only. This has been a great adjustment for the entire staff of the newspaper. We no longer need the news racks located across the county from Merietta to Greer and Mauldin. We no longer make a weekly trip to the post office, where we will miss our friends Mary and her team who have been very helpful in many ways.

Give President Trump a Break
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Both friend and foe are attacking President Trump regarding his meeting with Russian leader Putin today. They fail to realize that he is a gentleman in public and makes threats in private. Based on his past performance, I would speculate that the President publicly was nice to Putin. It was not productive to insult him in public and create an enemy that would find it necessary to retaliate in kind. We do not know what was said in private and do not need to know. My belief is that President Trump told Putin in private that he had proof of what his people and the Democrats did during the past election and probably showed him the proof.

Fourth District Republicans Should Not Be Complacent
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Republicans in the Fourth Congressional District have chosen William Timmons to be their candidate in the November 2018 General Election. Timmons defeated strongly conservative Lee Bright in the Republican Primary. Timmons appears to be an establishment Republican and a supporter of Senator Lindsey Graham. He is not popular among traditional conservative groups. Timmons replaced State Senator Mike Fair in the Senate but has served only part of one term in Columbia.

Thanks to Our Readers
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
We are excited about going digital with The Times Examiner. At the same time, we are sad about losing our readers who do not have computers and don’t want computers. Hopefully many of them will find friends or relatives with computers and printers who will print our important columns or articles for them. Many of them have shared their papers with friends and relatives over much of the almost 25 years we have been publishing. Now is time to return the favors.

A Very Important Runoff Election
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
The runoff election set for next Tuesday pits some very different candidates against each other. The democrats have their candidates; however, they will not have a big part in this election season in the Upstate. The winners in the republican primary will likely be winners in the November 2018 general election.
The runoff in the governor’s race: McMaster’s opponent is a dynamic young businessman with a Marine Corps background, vs. a lifelong politician with a big personality and a history of being part of the “Good ol Boy” system in Columbia. The opponent, John Warren, is a newcomer and a very successful business owner and military leader with combat experience.

Modernizing Publishing
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
The Times Examiner is undergoing a major transition that is planned for completion by July 1st. The former weekly hard-copy newspaper will become 100% digital beginning the 1st week in July 2018. The content will be essentially the same, however, the publication will be in real-time rather than having a weekly cutoff.
The primary election this week provides an example of the shortcomings of a weekly newspaper. Our publication schedule of going to press on Monday night for a newspaper dated Wednesday means we miss the election results and provide them to our readers eight days after they are available. The digital version will allow us to report to our readers in real-time.

Stephen Brown for Congress – SC District 4
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
The Times Examiner wholeheartedly endorses Stephen Brown in the Republican primary for Congress to replace Congressman Trey Gowdy who has chosen not to seek reelection. Loyal readers of this paper will likely recognize how unusual it is for the Times Examiner to provide an editorial endorsement to a candidate for any office. We believe that this candidate and this office, at this time, create an exceptional set of circumstances that compel us to help clarify the convoluted picture created by twelve candidates running for this Congressional seat, none of whom had significant name recognition prior to entering this race.
