Snow Campaign Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, held a ceremony at Simpsonville First Baptist Church Chapel on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, to commemorate the 226th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States of America. A piano prelude of patriotic music was presented by Mr. Randy Kirby. At 4:00 p.m. the church bells rang, to participate in the ringing of the bells across America. Every year on September 17th, at 4:00 p.m. Eastern time, the DAR has "Bells Ringing Across America" to commemorate the founders' signing of the Constitution. All churches and communities are encouraged to ring their bells. Mrs. Lena Horton, Past State Chair DAR Constitution Week, Past District 1 Director, and Past Regent of Snow Campaign Chapter, welcomed everyone. The colors were presented by the Mauldin High School JROTC Color Guard.
The invocation was given by Pastor Randy Harling. Mrs. Lynn Shore, State DAR Commemorative Events Chair and Past Regent of Snow Campaign Chapter, led in the pledge to the flag of the United States of America, the salute to the flag of South Carolina, the recitation of The American's Creed, and the singing of the National Anthem. Distinguished guests were recognized by Chapter Regent Dot Cooley: Simpsonville Mayor Perry Eichor, Simpsonville Councilman Brown Garrett, DAR State Regent Dot Lind, DAR State Vice Regent Dianne Culbertson, and DAR District 1 Director Harriet Willis Nash. Special music was presented by Ms. Jane Hopkins.
Snow Campaign Regent Dot Cooley presented the speaker, Mr. Rusty Godfrey, chair of the social studies and world languages department at the South Carolina Governor's School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville, South Carolina. Mr. Godfrey was the recipient of the 2012 DAR Outstanding Teacher of American History Award, given by the Daughters of the American Revolution at the National level. He brought an excellent presentation on the Constitution and its application to the country today. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the assembly sang "God Bless America" and the benediction was given by Chapter Chaplain Loretta Woods.
