UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA

The ladies of Winnie Davis 442 United Daughters of the Confederacy® were treated to a wonderful musical experience at their meeting on Monday, Feb. 1, 2016.  Noted composer Greg Lambert has taken letters written home by Confederate soldiers and composed music to accompany the words.  Mr. Lambert, a military veteran of the US Navy, plays the guitar as he sings these words of soldiers who express their longing for home, how they miss their loved ones, and fatigue because of the war.

This was a special evening for the ladies of the Chapter. It was designated couples evening, so each member brought her spouse for an evening of fellowship, entertainment and refreshments.  Dr. Julia Barnes, the Director of the SC Division, Children of the Confederacy brought as her escort, Matthew Myers of Belton, President of the SC Division, Children of the Confederacy®.   Matthew  brought greetings to the ladies and served as Page to the Chapter President during their certificate presentation.

Nancy Austin was awarded her supplemental certificate for the research on her Confederate ancestor, McCager Burnett (GA).  Julia Barnes was presented supplemental certificates for the service of Robert G. Robertson (VA), Rev. William Carnes Dunlap (TX & LA), James Stephenson Dunlap (MS), Solomon Rees (AR), James R. Wilson (GA), Robert Caldwell (TN), Samuel F. Dunlap (MS), and Charles McClung McGhee (TN).

Members welcomed the newest addition to the Chapter officers.  Martha Moody Bailey has accepted the position of Third Vice President and  Director of Joseph Evan Davis 907 CofC.  This position was previously filled by Chapter President Mrs. Durham.  Mrs. Bailey is the sister of well-known minister Broadus Moody, and has served as a Chapter Director of Bonnie Blue Flag CofC in Anderson.

Special recognition was given to military veterans through the presentation of the Missing Man Table. This was accompanied

by the presence of several mili-tary veterans, including Don Campbell, husband of Chapter Member Eleanor Campbell, Jim Bechtle, husband of Chapter Member Irene Bechtle,  Mike Barnes, husband of Chapter Member Julia Barnes,  Chapter Member Pamela Durham,  and Gregory Lambert. We were honored to have so many veterans with us for the evening.

The Winnie Davis Chapter meets the first Monday of every Monday, September through May.  If you have Confederate ancestory and would like to meet with the Winnie Davis Chapter, please call Pam Durham at 864-630-8086.
