Kevin McCarthy Drama Underscores Impotence of Republican Elite
- By Josh Hammer
After Republicans clinched their narrower-than-expected new House majority in November's midterm elections, the only relevant questions for Congress-watchers seemed to pertain to what Rep. Kevin McCarthy's (R-CA) impending House speakership would look like.
To what extent, if any, would he return House rules to "regular order," whereby bills are drafted and marked up in decentralized committees, rather than unilaterally imposed by the speaker's office? To what extent would he stack committee chairmanships with like-minded allies, and to what extent would he be forced to offer some chairman gavels to skeptical conservatives? To what extent would he direct the new Republican majority to focus on passing substantive legislation, and to what extent would he focus on subpoenaing and investigating the Biden administration? Would the so-called "motion to vacate" the speaker's chair be restored to the prerogative of a single House member, as was the case for two centuries?
The House Speaker's Race is Worth Celebrating
- By Neil Patel
There's a lot of alarmism going on right now about the race for speaker of the House. Many are calling it a crisis or a "three-ring circus." What it is really is the first sign that the reckoning and subsequent healing needed among Republicans may finally be upon us.
There is a huge split within the Republican Party. The party establishment sees an America that's fundamentally the same as it was in 1985 and has a policy agenda fit for just that moment. These Republicans still see big business as their allies. They equate policies that help big business with policies that help America.
Christian Hope in 2023
- By Rob Schwarzwalder - The Washington Stand
Let’s say that in the next couple of decades our country undergoes dramatic and positive change. There is nationwide repentance and a renewed commitment to Christ among His people. Human dignity becomes more than a slogan. The unborn are welcomed into life, racial and ethnic injustice is curtailed, marriage is recognized for what God intended it to be, and religious liberty is acknowledged as the cornerstone of all freedoms.
Government contracts and freedom expands. Families grow strong and healthy. Economic opportunity and sound fiscal policy join to create widening prosperity. We remedy the drug crisis and criminal violence becomes the extreme exception to a socially peaceful norm.
The Troll Sagas
- By Mike Scruggs
Chapter 3 - Of Gort Blacktooth and Grimhilda Svartslange
Skrogger Returns
Skrogger, the little fox, was gone about one day. When he came back, he was excited and obviously anxious to get Ketel’s attention. After about an hour’s consultation between fox and troll, ending with a long foxly howl, Ketel told Aelska that he would take Ivar, the little horse, Flicka, and Skrogger to rescue Marja. Presently, another fox named Raevi came and seemed to confer with Skrogger, with him was the gray squirrel, named Farear. Ketel then sang a little song and two enormous reindeer came out of the forest. A little while later, two huge gray wolves joined them. These would not normally have been welcome company to a young mother and her two youngest children about to be left on the farm alone with only a donkey—although a very handy donkey for warning people of danger. By now Aelska was a little better able to understand some of Ketel’s gruff speech. She was reassured that the two wolves and two reindeer would guard them like their own children, and that other animals would soon be bringing them food. The names of the wolves were Visatus and Rokeus. The reindeer were called. Ukkonen and Saalman, and Ketel told Aelska that they were as strong as the white bear and as swift as the eagle. The width of their antlers was greater than the length of a sword. Ketel also told her that he expected Sigurd Magnusson and Trigg Rolfsson to come within three days with their wives and other neighbors to help them.
To the 118th Congress: Welcome Aboard. Now Get to Work -- Part I
- By Oliver North
Today, the new U.S. Congress is sworn in. Welcome, especially to those new to Washington. As a reminder to my readers and charge to our elected representatives, here is the oath you will take:
"I, (name here), do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion, and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."
The Endless Battle Between Good And Evil Goes On
- By W.H. Lamb
“It is Satan, not God, who has been urging you to become a coward in the raging battle between good and evil, and to leave what should be your duty all up to God.” - Robert Welch, 1972 (Founder of The John Birch Society in 1958)
THE STRUGGLE FOR THE SOUL OF A NATION
In the two millennia from Jesus the Messiah’s founding of His Earthly Church upon the ROCK of His teachings and His love for a world of sinful people—i.e. upon HIMSELF, the battle between good and evil—the perpetual war waged by Satan and his willing followers against the people of God—against all things godly—spiritual—patriotic—and honorable, has never ceased. From the day that the Great Deceiver tried to “tempt” our Savior, the Second Person of the Godhead, into “worshipping him” by offering Him the whole world, until this very time, when the worship of our one and only Triune God is being PURPOSELY diminished and ridiculed, and the freedoms once guaranteed to Americans by a Constitution codified by the blood and sacrifices of brave men and women of our past are being rapidly stolen from us by those same “willing followers” of Satan that have plagued Christian and moral and decent and freedom loving people since the Pharisees of ancient Jerusalem took to the streets like a horde of screaming “AntiFa” banshees, crying “crucify Him—crucify Him”, that struggle between good and evil for the “soul” of our nation has never abated.
Will the Fed Blink in 2023? Will Congress Throw More Fuel on the Fire?
- By Veronique de Rugy
In the final week of 2022, we Americans can foresee two significant economic risks in 2023. The first one is a probability that the Federal Reserve will get weak-kneed and stop raising interest rates before inflation is truly under control. The second risk is that Congress will continue to spend and borrow money irresponsibly. The likely mix of these two hazards would all but ensure that our economic misery lasts much longer than necessary.
Let's start with the first risk. In theory, to tame inflation, the Fed will need to push real interest rates not only high -- as it has already done -- but higher than the highest rate that the Fed is now targeting, and in fact (SET ITAL) much (END ITAL) higher than most investors can remember. Such high rates will have two main effects: popping the stock market and real estate market, along with any other asset bubbles that we've witnessed in recent years. The economic downturn that would follow would increase unemployment rates significantly.

Yikes! Life Is Getting Shorter in America
- By Betsy McCaughey
It's one thing when government raises your taxes, suffocates your business with regulations or censors your tweets. It's far worse when government is to blame for actually shortening your life.
U.S. life expectancy dropped to 76.4 years, the lowest in 25 years, according to new federal data. Americans should be gasping. What could be more important than having the chance to live a long life?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention repeatedly has blown its responses to health killers like fentanyl, COVID and lung cancer. All the while, life expectancy gets shorter and shorter.

Politics Without Principle Will Devolve Into Chaos
- By Laura Hollis
George Santos, a newly elected congressman from Long Island, New York, has been caught in a string of embarrassing lies about his background. He claimed to have received a degree from Baruch College in 2010; he didn't. He claimed to have worked for Goldman Sachs and Citigroup; he didn't. He claimed to own multiple properties; he doesn't. In fact, he lives with his sister and has previously been a "deadbeat tenant" who was sued for thousands of dollars in unpaid rent and bounced checks. (He says now that he never even paid the judgment. "I completely forgot about it.")
Conservatives Pull Out a Couple of Wins Despite Terrible Lame Duck Session
- By Press Release
The House and Senate finally wrapped up their final business last week just in time for Christmas and to allow us a short rest before the new year and new Congress. Now is a great time to make an end-of-the-year donation to Eagle Forum that will allow us to continue the important work we do not only in Washington, D.C. but throughout the nation. In true Lame Duck fashion, the last week of the Congressional session kept us on our toes and on the edge of our seats! Democrats were pushing their leftist agenda items hard, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was willing to negotiate. Thanks to some hard-working conservative members, we were able to celebrate a few wins among the losses.
They Are Not Protectors of the Planet But Destroyers of Human Society
- By Tom DeWeese - American Policy Center
They told me that if I took the red pill I would be able to see reality – the truth of what is really going on around us. Well, I just happened to have a red pill and I took it. Like traveling through time, things rushed forward, I grew dizzy, and then I saw things around me become crystal clear!
Suddenly, I could see that the American people, and their every action, are being ruled, regulated, restricted, licensed, registered, directed, checked, inspected, measured, numbered, counted, rated, stamped, censured, authorized, admonished, refused, prevented, drilled, indoctrinated, monopolized, extorted, robbed, hoaxed, fined, harassed, disarmed, dishonored, fleeced, exploited, assessed, and taxed to the point of suffocation and desperation.
And then, more details started shooting out like fireworks! Policies. Politicians. Pronouncements. Power grabs. Everyday governments, at all levels, grows more out of control, more intrusive in our personal lives, more of a threat to private property – all in total and flagrant disregard of the expressed will of the electorate.
Understanding Uniformitarian Geology
- By Charles Creager, Jr.
Uniformitarian geology has its origins with Charles Lyell, and others but was most strongly pushed by Lyle. It was an attack on catastrophism and general but specifically the Genesis Flood. Lyell made it clear that he wanted to free geology from it, that is that he wanted to get rid of the Genesis Flood. At the time d Lyell began pushing Uniformitarianism besides the Genesis Flood there was another form of catastrophism that included multiple global catastrophes, in such cases the Genesis Flood was usually considered the most recent. These other catastrophes were considered by proponents of this theory to have been responsible for there being multiple layers. Lyell’s Uniformitarianism attacks the ideas of both single and multiple global catastrophes.
For Teachers Unions, Parents and Children Come Last
- By Star Parker
Schools in the Rochester school district in Michigan include in their curriculum a course called "History of Ethnic and Gender Studies."
If my child were attending school there, I would wonder why this is in the curriculum as part of K-12 education and what is taught.
One mother, Carol Beth Litkouhi, wondered enough that she went to the school and asked for details about what will be conveyed to her child in this program.
The response she got from the school amounted to "sorry, none of your business."
The Troll Sagas

Chapter 2 - Aelska’s Saga
The next morning, Aelska and the beautiful little twin sisters were greatly relieved and still astonished that Ketel Flatnose had been able to heal Ivar’s head-wound and save his life with a strange mix of boiled tree-bark. Yet there remained a gnawing sadness that Margerda, who was usually called Marja, had been captured and taken away by dangerous scoundrels, who might already have plans to sell her as a slave. Ketel had already put some healing salve on Ivar’s wound. Ivar was up and eager to rescue his sister. While Aelska was preparing some breakfast, a gray squirrel approached Ketel, Flicka, and Barki, chattered for a couple of minutes and darted away into the forest. During breakfast, Aelska began to share her story.
Our Liberties Are Being Threatened!
- By W.H. Lamb
All Americans should be familiar with the immortal words that did much to ignite the American Revolution back in 1775. But it’s discouraging to admit that some Americans, victims of modernist/progressive “un-teaching” of history, have no clue as to who said, “…Give me liberty or give me death”, and the circumstances leading to one of the most famous speeches of American history, or when it was orated. Indeed, there are many Americans walking among us who have never heard of Patrick Henry, have barely heard of the American Revolution, haven’t a clue as to the years it was fought or the country our Revolutionary patriots struggled against to attain their liberty. How very sad! How frightening! To forget or ignore the past is to condemn the future! If history teaches anything, it teaches that truth. To paraphrase some wisdom from the past—those who forget history are doomed to live under the rule of determined tyrants who do NOT forget history!
Republicans Should Just Say No to Any Budget That Funds 87,000 New IRS Agents
- By Stephen Moore
One of the biggest promises by Republicans in the 2022 election season was that if they won a majority in the House, they would defund the $80 billion that Biden wants to hire 87,000 new IRS agents.
But now they are about to agree to a $1.7 trillion omnibus spending deal with President Joe Biden and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) to fund the federal government for the rest of the fiscal year. That includes the full funding for the IRS expansion.
As This Latin American Country Falls Apart, China Looks on Anxiously
- By John Mac Ghlionn - The Epoch Times
On first inspection, Peru and China, 11,000 miles apart, appear to have very little in common. However, the two countries share a very close history.
As the academic Justina Hwang has noted, in the space of 25 years, between 1849 and 1874, more than 100,000 unskilled workers, many of them from China, arrived in Peru. Having recently abolished slavery, Peru was amid a worker shortage. This allowed “the importation of an indentured workforce of Chinese laborers in order to meet Peruvian need for labor,” wrote Hwang.

Florida Supreme Court to Convene Grand Jury to Investigate COVID-19 Vaccines
- By Mimi Nguyen Ly - The Epoch Times
The Florida Supreme Court announced Thursday it approved a request by Gov. Ron DeSantis to impanel a statewide grand jury to investigate any wrongdoing related to COVID-19 vaccines.
“A statewide grand jury shall be promptly impaneled for a term of twelve calendar months, to run from the date of impanelment, with jurisdiction throughout the State of Florida, to investigate crime, return indictments, make presentments, and otherwise perform all functions of a grand jury with regard to the offenses stated herein,” reads the court order (pdf) issued Thursday.
It Must Always Be 'Merry Christmas'
- By Robin M. Itzler - American Thinker
Decades ago, when I was a liberal Democrat, I bought into the fallacy that saying “Merry Christmas” was wrong. But back then, I also thought murdering a baby in the womb was right. As (my husband and) I slowly morphed into Reagan Democrats and then finally abandoned the now Marxist-leaning Democrat party to register as Republicans, I realized that celebrating Christmas is fundamental to the United States remaining a beacon of freedom in the world. Commemorating Christmas guarantees freedom of religion for all Americans.
Think about it. If a nation where about 80 percent of its population is Christian is denied its own religious beliefs (“Merry Christmas” morphing into “Happy Holidays”), what chance do smaller religions such as Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. have for celebrating their holidays? If woke Marxists can remove the nativity scene from Christmas and replace it with Santa Claus, it’s even easier to remove the Hanukkah menorah and replace it with Liberace’s candelabra.

As we watch people around the world demanding freedom, What Is happening to America?
- By Kathleen Marquardt - American Policy Center
Where are the American freedom fighters?
We are watching people around the world erupt. They see the writing on the wall and have decided that they aren’t going to take it anymore. In China, from The Economist:
“Under a road bridge in central Beijing, just before two o’clock in the morning on November 28th, one of that city’s most powerful men came face to face with youngsters driven to despair by China’s harsh “zero-covid” controls. The brief meeting was revealing in several ways. It offered a glimpse of the security machine built by China’s supreme leader, President Xi Jinping, and the Communist Party’s confidence in it. On the protesters’ side, it showed how, in today’s China, youthful idealism is tempered by a sober understanding of the party’s might.
Normal People Are Crying Out for a Leader
- By Neil Patel
The leftward shift of the Democratic Party has provided a huge opportunity for Republicans. People are completely put off by many of the radical policies Democrats are pushing. What a gift this should be for Republicans. So why have they been so thoroughly unable to capitalize?
A huge chunk of the Republican Party's Washington establishment is still living in 1995. They are thoroughly unable to get their heads around the profound changes in America. As with so many Americans these days, they are defined by their own bubble. The people they know best -- corporate America and those in leadership positions -- are generally thriving. They haven't stopped to consider whether the trade, immigration, spending, defense and other policies that define them need an update in light of the country's current circumstances. The giant wave of political unease in America -- even after a reality TV host kicked their door open and took over the living room! -- has caused almost zero self-reflection among Republicans.
