Greenville Now 6th Largest City in StateThe latest information from the Regional Census Center in Charlotte reveals that South Carolina had one of the largest numerical increases in Hispanics in the nation between 1990 and 2000 with an increase of 64,525 or 211.2 percent. Between 2000 and 2009 the increase in numbers was almost double that in the previous decade with an increase of 111,688 people of Hispanic origin. In 2009 Hispanics made up 4.5 percent of the population of South Carolina. |

Barack Obama revealed his goal for the Supreme Court when he complained on Chicago Radio Station WBEZ-FM in 2001 that the Earl Warren Court wasn't "radical" enough because "it didn't break free from the essential constraints placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution" in order to allow "redistribution of wealth." Now that Obama is President, he has the power to nominate Supreme Court justices who will "break free" from the Constitution and join him in "fundamentally transforming" America. That's the essence of his choice of Elena Kagan as his second Supreme Court nominee. She never was a judge, and her paper trail is short but it's long enough to prove that she is a clear and present danger to the Constitution. |

Sounds like it came from a talk radio diatribe, or possibly from a right-wing conservative blog. Actually, it comes from our Declaration of Independence. In that document the term I have in brackets—government— was actually “King of Great Britain.” |

Newspaper EndorsementsFolks in The Dark Corner don’t put much stock in newspaper endorsements of political candidates. Some observers in our neck of the woods will tell you that endorsements by some daily newspapers should be avoided - that they can hurt more than they help. They certainly didn’t appear to help Congressmen Bob Inglis and Gresham Barrett very much in their recent bids for election. The Times Examiner has never endorsed a candidate. The publisher says his readers are well informed and smart enough to decide who to vote for on their own. |

The elections of 2010 are bringing change to South Carolina. Some of the changes can be attributed to Barack Obama – not in support of him but in opposition to his policies and the chaos he is creating in the nation and world. Deb Sofield was moderator of the event and maintained control over questions and time allowed for answers. Congressman Inglis, showing signs of stress from his toughest race yet for the congressional seat, was constantly on the attack. Dr. W. P. “Buddy” Witherspoon and Rev. Scott Crutchfield were the lead speakers at the Blessings of Liberty Celebration in Travelers Rest, Sunday, July 4, 2010, that attracted more than 150 people.


The Greenville County Republican Women’s Club conducted its annual Americanism meeting June 24 with a luncheon at the Poinsett Club. The theme was “Let Freedom Ring.”
No one predicted that six-term Congressman Bob Inglis after spending gobs of money on television and radio ads, knocking on hundreds of doors and holding dozens of discussion meets, would only be able to scrape up 29 percent of the vote in the district he once “owned.” Inglis only won 3 precincts in Greenville County and none in either Spartanburg or Union County.


The Constitution Party of South Carolina held their State Convention, Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Greenville. The State Convention was to nominate Constitution Party candidates for the general election to be held in November. SC State Chairman Ted Adams presided, and Convention President John Langville conducted the election of state officers.
The last meeting before vote in the primary runoff election between Bob Inglis and Trey Gowdy took place Monday morning at the Poinsett Club. The event was sponsored by the Upstate Republican Women’s Club.
On the final evening of the historical four-day Greenville visit by His Royal Highness, Prince Edward, a private VIP reception was held at White Oak, historic home of Furman University President. The event served as a thank you to the sponsors of The Duke of Edinburgh Foundation Award.
Regina Griggs, Executive Director of PFOX, “Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays,” a family organization that educates the public on the message of hope and support for students, families and educators affected by homosexuality, gender confusion and school bullying, alleges that “the PTA has become a left-wing advocacy group instead of serving the needs of all children.
Harry Cato has represented Northern Greenville County in the South Carolina House for two decades. During those years he has never had a serious challenge – until this year.
