Seventeen Korean War combat veterans were presented the Korean War Ambassador for Peace Medal during ceremonies in Taylors at the Taylors First Baptist Church Ministry Center, Saturday, July 26, 2014.

Retired US Marine Corps BG Jim Walker, a Wade Hampton High School and Clemson University graduate, presented the medals to recipients.

The medal is an expression of appreciation from the Korean government to the US service members who served in the conflict. The medals were forged from reclaimed metal from the Demilitarized Zone separating South and North Korea.

The presentation was part of the Korean War Veterans Association annual Friendship Banquet that also featured an address by BG Walker, who served a tour of duty in Korea after the war ended.

The speaker was introduced by Eddie Wooten, president of Chapter 301 of the Associations of Korean War Veterans. General Walker commended the Korean War veterans for setting an example for future service members through their honorable service in Korea that gave the people of South Korea freedom to participate in a system of free enterprise.
