Democrats often try to disparage Tea Party candidates by calling them “extremists.” To me this is both idiotic and despicable. Here’s why I say that:

John believes 6 + 8 = 14. Henry believes 6 + 8 = 68. Henry is very eloquent and is able to convince the majority of people that he is right and John is not only wrong, but he is an extremist because his ideas are so remote from the “main stream.” It is NOT a good idea, to force John to compromise with Henry and agree that 6 + 8 = 41 (halfway between 14 and 68).

When I was a sophomore in college we had a boy named Lee Nalley on our football team. Lee held the state record in the 100-yard dash. That made him an extremist. Few, if any, boys could run faster than Lee. Because of Lee’s extremism (speed and agility) he won many football games for us. Only a proponent of failure would disparage Lee for his extremism. Only an advocate of defeat would call Lee’s extremism a bad thing.

I recommend that when you hear someone trying to disparage their opponent for being an extremist you should question their integrity and their alleged intelligence. Extremism is  often a very good thing, and is not automatically bad.
