Five members of Greenville County Council were installed Monday, January 5, for a four-year term, in Council Chambers at Greenville County Square. Four of the Council members were incumbents and one, Lynn Ballard, was installed for a first term representing District 26.

Joe Dill, District 17; Willis Meadows, District 19; Xanthene Norris, District 23; Lynn Ballard, District 26 and Fred Payne, District 28 were administered their oath of office by Chief Deputy Magistrate Leila Foster.

Greenville County Council consists of 12 elected officials representing districts across the county. They serve four year terms and have no term limits. Following each election cycle, the council elects a Chairman and Vice Chairman who also serves as Chairman of the County Finance Committee.

Among their duties are approval of County Ordinances, construction and maintenance of county roads and bridges, and approval of the budgets for county operations, the County Library and the Sheriff’s Office.

Invocation for the program was presented by Dr. David Yearick, Pastor Emeritus of Hampton Park Baptist Church. Councilman “Butch” Kirven led the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag.

A reception was held following the program.
