COLUMBIA,S.C. – Governor Nikki Haley today signed into law S 20, an illegal immigration reform bill, during a ceremony at the Statehouse. Video of the bill signing is available online at.Gov. Haley said, “As the proud daughter of immigrants, who taught us everyday how blessed we are to live here, I want to say that South Carolina welcomes people, and we love the fact that this state is made up of many different types of people. But we also appreciate that those people, like my parents, put in their time and came here the right way - they came here legally. What we are saying is that this state can no longer afford those who don't come here the right way, and we are now going to do something about it. I want to thank the supporters of the bill – in particular Senator Larry Grooms, Senator Larry Martin and House Judiciary Chairman Jim Harrison – and I want to make sure that the supporters of the bill celebrate as the rest of the country is watching: South Carolina is a tolerant state, but it's also a law-abiding state.”
