North Greenville Food Crisis Ministry Receives $3,000

This year 60 players came out to enjoy the day of golf and fellowship. This tournament first began in 1967, under the direction of Mr. Clyde Carr.

World War II Combat Veteran Recalls Parachuting Behind Enemy Lines With 82nd Airborne Division
Sitting in his office at his spacious White Horse Road home that sprawls across a grassy knoll, Melvin Wagstaff looked healthy and fit for a veteran of World War II as he smiled and greeted visitors. Our host soon revealed that the years have taken a toll on his 86-year old body that for most of those years was solid and healthy. He now has health problems that modern medicine cannot reverse. Declining health is difficult for an indestructible “fighting machine” whose physical strength served him well during lengthy periods of combat and remained strong and healthy throughout a long and productive civilian life.
Numbers Needed to Repeal Obamacare Increasing

There are Now 133 Members Pledged to Support Repeal
Eight more members of the US House signed on to support the plan to repeal Obamacare. That is more than half of the 218 members needed to pass the 435 member House.
The goal of the repeal bill is to “pull out by the roots” the legislation that, among other things, will require citizens to purchase “government-approved” health insurance whether they want it or not.
BJU Names New Dean of Students

Bob Jones University announced today the appointment of Dr. Eric Newton as Dean of Students. Reporting to Dr. Gary Weier, Vice President for Administration, Dr. Newton replaces Dr. Jim Berg who held the position for 29 years.
Dr. Newton graduated from BJU in 2001 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history. He continued his education at BJU and received a Master of Divinity degree in Theology in 2003 and a PhD in Theology in 2010. His service at BJU began in 2001 as a graduate assistant in the history department. He then traveled for a year as a BJU ministry team leader. He has served as the assistant dean of students for three years.

With the GOP candidate for Governor of Colorado embroiled in a plagiarism scandal, former Rep. Tom Tancredo has been touted as a possible replacement candidate. Tancredo was the overwhelming choice of Colorado Republicans if the current candidate withdraws, according to a Survey USA poll conducted after the plagiarism allegations broke last week.

Why Are Americans Cynical?

There is a saying used somewhat facetiously that declares “when seconds count, the police are only minutes away.” A similar saying could apply to the terrible oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. When hours count, government help is only months away. Despite President Obama’s protestations to the contrary, the current administration has proven itself to be woefully incompetent in the handling of this environmental disaster.
If Obama’s claim that he has been on top of this situation since day one is true then he should be impeached. As I write this, we are at day 76 of this disaster and despite the efforts of thousands of individuals, relatively little has been accomplished. The big news today is that the Whale, a huge converted oil tanker with the potential of processing 21 million gallons of oil contaminated water is now in the Gulf. But what is it doing? It is engaged in testing under the oversight of the Environmental Protection Agency.
Woodard, “Nikki Haley is a Libertarian, Not a Conservative”

Sheheen is a “very bright, articulate candidate”
Dr. David Woodard, a professor of political science at Clemson, told the Greenville County Republican Women, July 22, that Nikki Haley is a libertarian, not a conservative.
“The well springs are different for those movements,” Woodard said. “Libertarians believe in individual autonomy, and conservatives believe in the care of the culture for traditional values. Mark Sanford was also very much influenced by libertarian policies.
“I haven’t heard a lot of rhetoric from Nikki Haley that is truly conservative,” he said. “I have heard a lot that is libertarian.”Woodard said the allegations about Haley’s personal life need to be addressed. One of her accusers has released 600 to 700 e-mails, while Nikki Haley has refused to respond because, as a state representative, her e-mails are protected under state law. Her computer is embargoed because it was used as a state computer.

Edward Paxton, an engineer familiar with various procurement practices and as a concerned citizen has been attending Western Carolina Regional Sewer Authority (REWA) board meetings, appeared before the Greenville County Legislative Delegation, Monday night at Greenville County Square, and requested that Lawmakers intercede in procurement of construction services for a $35 million REWA Piedmont Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant.
Trout Completes Prison Sentence August 5, 2010

Will Complete Sentence of One Year and One Day in West Virginia Federal Prison Camp
Former Greenville County Councilman Tony Trout from Greer will complete his year and a day prison sentence for conviction on federal charges of wiretapping and computer spying on August 5th, 2010 and will be released from a West Virginia Federal Prison.
Once released, Trout will face Jury Tampering charges in South Carolina for allegedly attempting to influence a member or members of a Greenville County Grand Jury.
Sam Davis Youth Camp

Do you lament the revisionist history being foisted on kids today, especially the mythology that passes for southern history? A camp with a purpose, the annual Sam Davis Youth Camp, provides an opportunity for young people to learn the truth.
For five days youth are treated to some topnotch presentations regarding various aspects of southern history. Young people from age 12 to 19 are eligible to attend. Children who are younger may attend with a parent. Campers have a very full day beginning with the first presentation at 9:00. The day usually ends with a campfire at 10:00.

Robert G. “Butch” Taylor urged the Greenville County Legislative Delegation to pass a bill as soon as possible that is equivalent to the Arizona S. 1070 to deal with illegal aliens in South Carolina.
The cost of dealing with the illegal aliens is taking a toll on state funds and wearing on the patience of citizens who were born in this country or who have obtained citizenship legally.
Painful Lessons for Vulnerable Incumbents

There is no question that incumbents who are out-of-touch with their constituents are very vulnerable during the 2010 election season. There are some dramatic examples in South Carolina and the Upstate.
Incumbent politicians who have had little opposition in the past and failed to take note that a large segment of the voting public has lost confidence in the leadership of both major political parties in Washington, D. C. and Columbia, S. C. are vulnerable to rejection by voters for the first time in their political careers.

In 1925, following a lawsuit about the City polluting Conestee Lake with raw sewage, the General Assembly's Act 362 created Greater Greenville Sewer District as a special purpose district. 85 years later, the Authority has evolved to become REWA, operating in three counties, spending $62 million a year on operations, governed by a Commission of nine Commissioners.
Hispanics Flocking to South Carolina

Greenville Now 6th Largest City in State
The latest information from the Regional Census Center in Charlotte reveals that South Carolina had one of the largest numerical increases in Hispanics in the nation between 1990 and 2000 with an increase of 64,525 or 211.2 percent. Between 2000 and 2009 the increase in numbers was almost double that in the previous decade with an increase of 111,688 people of Hispanic origin. In 2009 Hispanics made up 4.5 percent of the population of South Carolina.

Elena Kagan Should Be Rejected

Barack Obama revealed his goal for the Supreme Court when he complained on Chicago Radio Station WBEZ-FM in 2001 that the Earl Warren Court wasn't "radical" enough because "it didn't break free from the essential constraints placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution" in order to allow "redistribution of wealth." Now that Obama is President, he has the power to nominate Supreme Court justices who will "break free" from the Constitution and join him in "fundamentally transforming" America.
That's the essence of his choice of Elena Kagan as his second Supreme Court nominee. She never was a judge, and her paper trail is short but it's long enough to prove that she is a clear and present danger to the Constitution.
Establishing an Absolute Tyranny

Sounds like it came from a talk radio diatribe, or possibly from a right-wing conservative blog. Actually, it comes from our Declaration of Independence. In that document the term I have in brackets—government— was actually “King of Great Britain.”

Koreans Express Appreciation for American Sacrifices for Their Freedom
Upstate chapters of the Korean War Veterans Association joined together Saturday in remembrance of the 60th Anniversary of the beginning of the Korean War, June 25th, 1950. The event revolved around a buffet luncheon at the Phoenix Inn in Greenville. Several natives of Korea who are now naturalized American citizens attended and participated in the program.
Reverend Peter Chong, pastor of All Nations Full Gospel Church opened the program with the Invocation.

The Greenville County Republican Women’s Club conducted its annual Americanism meeting June 24 with a luncheon at the Poinsett Club. The theme was “Let Freedom Ring.”
The guest of honor and main speaker was Willie Thompson, a Vietnam veteran who served in the Marines.
The musical program was presented by Greenville in Harmony, a women’s chorus affiliated with Sweet Adelines International. Club members brought items for residents of the Richard Campbell Veterans Nursing Home in Anderson. Nancee Lee Yearick organized the program.
Homeschool Student Wins National Oratorical Scholarship Contest

Victoria Elizabeth Black (Tori Beth) won the National American Legion Oratorical Contest and $18,000 college scholarship in Indianapolis, Indiana, April 11, 2010. She began the journey at her local Post 44, the Leverette-Thomas American Legion Post in Iva, S.C. in the January competition. She continued to advance to Zone, State and finally Nationals! The National Competition was incredible as the 53 contestants, all completely prepared, and delivered 8-10 minute orations on the Constitution of the United States of America, along with a 3-5 minute impromptu speech drawn during each round.

Nikki Haley, Trey Gowdy Exceed Own Expectations
No one predicted that six-term Congressman Bob Inglis after spending gobs of money on television and radio ads, knocking on hundreds of doors and holding dozens of discussion meets, would only be able to scrape up 29 percent of the vote in the district he once “owned.” Inglis only won 3 precincts in Greenville County and none in either Spartanburg or Union County.

Legislation requiring voters to prove who they are when they vote by presenting identification failed to pass the South Carolina Senate last week. The legislation required identification by a South Carolina drivers license, South Carolina official identification card, a U. S. Passport, a U. S. Government identification or a voter identification card with a photo ID in order to vote in South Carolina.
Passage of the bill to close a clear loophole in the current law that allows voter fraud and abuse was the top priority for the South Carolina Republican Party this year.
