As Justice Breyer Announces His Retirement, Operation Rescue Vows to Oppose Any Nominee that Will Not Respect Human Life & Liberty
- By Christian Newswire
WASHINGTON -- Today, it was learned that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will announce his retirement as early as tomorrow.
Breyer was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1994, and has consistently sided in favor of abortion when the matter has been before the Supreme Court. He is expected to remain on the court until the end of this term, which means he will cast a vote in the Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization case, which has the potential to overturn the 1973 Roe v. Wade case that decriminalized abortion in the U.S. The Dobbs opinion is expected in the spring.
Judicial Panel Hiding Behind Secrecy Law
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
A legislatively controlled committee isn’t saying publicly why it found a longtime circuit court judge unqualified – and state law requires the secrecy.
The six-legislator, 10-member Judicial Merit Selection Commission (JMSC) on Dec. 1 voted 9-0 not to qualify Horry County circuit judge Steven John, who has been on the bench since 2001, for another six-year term – a rare action involving a sitting, veteran judge.
In a December Nerve story, Erin Crawford, the JMSC’s chief lawyer, wouldn’t say why John was found unqualified for the 15th Circuit Court seat, though she said a formal screening report to be released by the commission would “state forth the findings of the Commission on each of the 9 evaluative criteria and will set forth any areas of concern as well as commission comments.”

GoFundMe Withholds $5.2 Million from Canadian Truckers Convoy and Campaign Donors
- By GiveSendGo
BOSTON -- On Tuesday, GoFundMe announced they would be freezing and withholding the funds of a campaign created in support of a convoy of Canadian truckers traveling across Canada in protest against vaccine mandates. As of Wednesday morning, the campaign has raised more than $5.2 million in support of the truckers convoy.
"This is yet another example of Big Tech becoming Big Brother, dictating how people should make decisions and raise money," said Jacob Wells, co-founder of GiveSendGo, the #1 free Christian crowdfunding site. "Not only is GoFundMe withholding funds from the recipients of this campaign, but they're refusing to refund money back to the donors."
Finland Puts the Bible on Trial
- By Arielle Del Turco - Family Research Council
Yesterday, Europe's biggest religious freedom case went to trial. A Finnish member of parliament, Päivi Räsänen, has been charged by the Finnish prosecutor general with three counts of "ethnic agitation," a hate speech provision in Finland's criminal code. Each count relates to Räsänen's respectful expression of widely held Christian beliefs.
The first charge concerns a 2019 tweet in which Räsänen questioned the decision of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Finland (her own denomination) to partner with Helsinki's gay pride parade; this tweet also featured an image of Romans 1:24-27. Räsänen had moved on and forgotten about this tweet -- until she learned that the police were investigating her over it.
#FreeMartyG: Exposing America's Secret Prisons
- By Michelle Malkin
Marty Gottesfeld, 37, is an American political prisoner. There's just no other way to describe the self-taught, nonviolent techie/medical freedom activist now locked away in solitary confinement at a secret federal detention facility in Marion, Illinois -- after being transferred this month from a different secret center in Terre Haute, Indiana. Both are known as "communications management units" (CMUs) in prison industrial complex bureaucrat-ese.
Or you could just call them un-American penitentiary black holes.
Universal Pre-K -- Another Progressive Bad Idea
- By Star Parker
With Democrats' multitrillion dollar Build Back Better initiative hitting a wall in the U.S. Senate, President Joe Biden has suggested that components of the bill be advanced separately.
One of these components is a plan for government funded universal pre-K schooling.
It would fund school for some 6 million children ages 3 and 4.
Federal funds would be provided for six years, the first three funded 100% by the federal government, with the share provided by states increasing up to 40% by year six.
Total cost estimate generated by the bill's sponsors is $200 billion.
What Does Green Mean?
- By Anne Schlafly Cori, Chairman, Eagle Forum
Is the goal of the climate activists to reduce the human carbon footprint on the planet or is their goal to control our energy usage, tax us, and reduce our standard of living? The current debate in Europe is illuminating.
The European Union has pledged to be “carbon-neutral” by 2050 — in a mere 28 years. A short time, but long enough that the current politicians will not be in power to take the heat when there is no heat available.
France and Germany do not agree on how to be “carbon-neutral”. Today, 70 percent of electricity in France is powered by nuclear plants, and they are building more. The French realize that in Northern Europe, the sun does not shine very often, but atomic power can be always available. The added bonus is that atomic power is “clean” energy with no carbon footprint.
Tell Department of Health and Human Services to Stop Harming Patients!
- By Family Research Council
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) has just proposed a rule that would force insurers to cover “gender transition” procedures such as cross-sex hormones, puberty blockers, and sex reassignment surgery. This rule change would harm not only evidence-based medicine but also, ironically, the very patients the change purports to help. It’s driven by the ideological push to redefine sex as a social construct and would threaten the religious liberty of religiously-affiliated hospitals and medical professionals. Before finalizing and implementing this rule, HHS has asked the public to comment with their thoughts on the matter.
America Must Leave the Dirty Half Dozen Most Pro-Abortion Countries
- By Mary Szoch - Family Research Council
In 1973, a small group of pro-lifers joined a Catholic attorney named Nellie Gray for dinner. Six months prior, the U.S. Supreme Court had issued its infamous Roe v. Wade decision that made abortion on demand through all nine months of pregnancy the default law of every state. These advocates for the unborn were determined not to let the one-year anniversary of the decision pass without acknowledging it with a march -- a protest demanding that Congress (as Nellie put it) "pay attention to 20,000 people coming in the middle of winter to tell them to overturn Roe v. Wade." And so, the March for Life was born.
Forty-nine years later, those who believe the truth that an unborn child is a human being still march every year. Snow, shine, or freezing cold (like this year), the rabbi has blown his shofar, the students have chanted, and people have come from all across the country to stand for life.
Shrink Federal Government by 80% with Constitutionalism | Freedom is the Cure
- By The John Birch Society
If our politicians were to consult the U.S. Constitution before every vote, we estimate that 80% of the federal government would not exist.
In this episode, Christian Gomez and Peter Rykowski of the John Birch Society’s research department join Paul to discuss unconstitutional federal departments, how American society gradually moved toward a paternalistic government, and how patriots can reverse this trend. This episode’s featured action tool includes the Congressional Scorecard and Freedom Index, both created to help voters hold members of Congress accountable to the country’s fundamental governing documents.
Is Biden Right? Does the Left Own the Future?
- By Pat Buchanan
Before he appeared at his first solo news conference of 2022, President Joe Biden knew he had a communications problem he had to deal with.
Namely, how to get off the defensive.
How to avoid spending his time with the White House press corps defending his decisions and explaining his actions as allegations of failure, one after another, were tossed up at him?
Biden entered knowing what issues would be paramount and what questions would be raised:
Why had he been unable to control a coronavirus pandemic now killing 2,000 Americans a day? Why was he unable to contain an inflation eating up the wages, salaries and savings of American families at a yearly rate of 7%? Why was he unable to secure a southern border that 150,000 illegal immigrants were crossing every month?
From Cybersex to Child Sacrifice: New GFA World Report Probes 'Children in Crisis'
- By GFA World
From U.S. border to South Asia, 1.2 billion children face 'horrors,' exploitation on sickening scale
WILLS POINT, Texas -- America's humanitarian border crisis is featured in a shocking new report that examines the horrors facing the world's children in 2022.
Many migrant boys and girls fall prey to human traffickers, smugglers, and drug cartels en route to the U.S., according to the report "Children in Crisis: The World's Greatest 'Badge of Shame'" (http://www.gfa.org/press/KidsCrisis) by Texas-based humanitarian agency GFA World (www.gfa.org).
The report highlights a terrifying U.S. Border Patrol video that shows human smugglers dropping sisters – 3 and 5 years old from Ecuador – over a 14-foot section of the border fence in the New Mexico desert. The smugglers ran off, leaving the young girls alone in the dark.
The Most Dangerous Virus Today Is Runaway Government Spending
- By Stephen Moore
When I came to Washington, D.C., in 1985, Ronald Reagan was president. I was working for the Reagan budget office. We did something we weren't very proud of at the time. We introduced the first $1 trillion budget in American history, which was unthinkable. One trillion dollars. There are 12 zeroes in a trillion. A trillion is a million dollars times a million. The budget deficit hit $200 billion and 6% of our entire GDP. Again, unthinkable.
Now, fast forward 37 years later. The budget today is nowhere close to $1 trillion. In 2021, President Joe Biden's first year in office, the federal spending came in at just under $7 trillion ($6.81 trillion, to be exact). So, in less than four decades, the budget has grown sevenfold. Much faster than inflation. Much faster than the economy. The government is now gobbling up the economy, spending up to 30% of our national output. Add state and local spending, and we are close to 40%.

Russia-Ukraine-NATO Crisis Update
- By Mike Scruggs
Who Will Benefit from War?
Part 3 on Russia-Ukraine Crisis
The seriousness of the situation between the Russian Federation and Ukraine was dramatically increased on December 17, 2021, when the Russian Foreign Minister issued “non-negotiable” treaty outlines separately to the United States and NATO. The major overall issue according to these virtual “ultimatums” issued by the Russians is that the continuing expansion of NATO threatens Russian security. There are now 31 NATO member states, including many former parts of the Soviet Union. The latest NATO membership was North Macedonia in 2020. In addition, there are 24 NATO partner countries. This is more complicated. Ukraine is a NATO partner country, but so are Russia and one of its most trusted bordering allies, Belarus. There has been talk of making Ukraine a NATO member, but most NATO members are not eager for this. Ukraine is the poorest and reputedly the most corrupt country in Europe, and Russian-Ukrainian tensions over the 75 percent Russian speaking Donbas region of southeastern Ukraine have resulted in 13,000 deaths since 2014. Russia also warned NATO partners Sweden and Finland not to assist NATO.
The Story of “Atayataghronghta,” Warrior For American Independence
- By W.H. Lamb
Who, you might reasonably ask, was “Atayataghronghta”? I had never heard that Native American name in my many years of historical reading and research centered around our Revolutionary War period, but I had once come across his English name a long time ago: Joseph Louis Cook (c. 1737-1814), also called Colonel Louis Cook in historical records. It wasn’t until I read his life story in my wife’s D.A.R. magazine: American Spirit, November/December 2021 Issue (Vol. 155, #6), in an article by Amanda Taylor, titled, “Unwavering Dedication to the Cause”, that I was able to finally put his Indian and his English names together and discover a not unknown, but long underappreciated, American patriot whose “dedication to the cause” of American liberty should be much better known.

Shocking and Disturbing Video from the Supreme Court Today on the 'Roe v. Wade' Memorial
- By Christian Newswire
WASHINGTON -- While pro-lifers lay thousands of flowers at the Supreme Court to honor children who have died from abortion, and women shared their personal stories of abortion grief, pro-choice advocates danced and celebrated abortion violence.
Brandi Swindell, Founder and CEO of Stanton Public Policy Center:
"It was deeply disturbing to see radical pro-choice activists celebrate the killing of innocent children and mock women sharing painful stories of abortion regret. Their actions clearly demonstrate that the pro-abortion movement has never truly been concerned about the well-being of women or their empowerment."

Hope Is on the March
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
The tens of thousands of pro-lifers who made the trek to Washington, D.C. this morning didn't just come to support the unborn. They came to see history. For 49 years, they've slogged through rain, snow, sleet, and freezing cold for the March for Life with one prayer in their hearts: an end to Roe v. Wade. Today, that dream is closer than ever.
The hope that started blooming two years ago with the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett has exploded into full-blown optimism now, as the Supreme Court considers the first direct challenge to unlimited abortion in a generation: Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. After a half-century, Roe could finally fall -- ending a bloody legacy that cost our nation 63 million lives. If it does, the young people standing in the sun this afternoon will remember this moment. They'll remember the belief on everyone's faces and the anticipation they felt wondering if this stop on the steps of the Supreme Court could finally be their last.
Natural Gas Provider Threatens to Cut Off Fuel for Texas Power Plants
- By WFAA.com
Dallas-based Energy Transfer says the gas will continue to flow to Luminant's power plants but did not say for how long. Meanwhile, winter weather approaches.
A fight is unfolding between two Texas energy giants, and power to 400,000 homes is being used as leverage.
One of Texas’ largest power providers on Wednesday asked state regulators to intervene and stop Dallas-based pipeline company Energy Transfer from halting natural gas service to its power plants.

Ports Authority Execs Got Big Bonuses, Other Perks In ‘21
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
The Daniel Island Club on its website bills itself as one of the top country clubs in Charleston, offering two “nationally-ranked” private golf courses, along with swimming, tennis and fitness facilities in a “lush, resort-style setting.”
Jim Newsome, the president and CEO of the state-created Ports Authority (SCPA), belonged to the swank club last year, as did three other top SCPA executives – with their pricey club dues paid by the authority, according to agency records provided recently to The Nerve under the S.C. Freedom of Information Act.
The total compensation in 2021 for Newsome, who announced last fall that he is retiring this year, effective June 30, was nearly $1.1 million, which included, besides $16,848 in country club dues, a $336,875 bonus, $187,153 in deferred compensation, $15,707 for “executive” life insurance and an $11,076 car allowance, records show. His base annual salary was $511,849.
King of the Bungle
- By Tony Perkins - Family Research Council
The kinder reviews said it "didn't go quite as planned." But for anyone else tuning in to the longest presidential news conference in history, it was a disaster of epic proportions. The White House had been shielding Joe Biden from the press for months. And now we all understand why.
It was, as even Politico pointed out, his staff's worst "nightmare come true." For what might be the first time as president, Joe Biden was completely unfiltered. Suddenly off the short leash of his handlers, he talked for an hour and fifty-one minutes Wednesday, setting a record that outpaced even Donald Trump by a whole half an hour. But longer wasn't better for the flailing White House, as Biden's blunders on everything from Ukraine to COVID reminded everyone what a mistake his presidency has been.
Joe Biden Completes His Historic Failure
- By Neil Patel
Joe Biden campaigned as a moderate elder statesman who could help heal a divided country. The press played up the narrative that Biden put in place a team of professionals and technocrats who would provide real governing expertise as a salve from the chaos of the Trump years. The truth, of course, has been just the opposite.
Many Americans are coming to believe that, contrary to the expectations going in, the Biden administration is a rudderless, leaderless, overly ideological mess. Biden did not help himself at his rare press conference Wednesday.
When challenged on America's declining faith in the competence of his government, Biden denied reality. He said the Afghanistan withdrawal was never going to be easy. This directly contradicts his assurances before the withdrawal when he said we could do it "responsibly, deliberately and safely." Biden's earlier statements are not a secret, and everyone knows that 13 American soldiers died after Biden outsourced security around the withdrawal to the Taliban. Deflecting this reality is dishonest, and it's not helpful to Biden politically.
