“Ultimately, we don’t have a crime problem or a gun problem – or even a violence problem. What we have is a sin problem. And since we ordered God out of our schools and communities, the military, and public conversations, you know, we really shouldn’t act so surprised when all hell breaks loose.”

That was Mike Huckabee, former Governor of Arkansas and candidate for president speaking on his FOX television program following the Aurora, Colorado, movie massacre. Huckabee is also an ordained Southern Baptist Preacher and is speaking from a biblical perspective.

Huckabee said the mass murder “is impossible to understand except that we live in a world where there is evil. We simply don’t know why any person would reach deep enough into the forces of darkness to decide to kill innocent people simply watching a movie.”

Killing a dozen people in a movie theater gets attention because it doesn’t happen every day, Huckabee observed, “but one million innocent and unborn babies die in their mother’s wombs each year by elective abortions and we pay scant attention to that.”

He cited the 6,500 plus troops killed in Iraq and Afghanistan that go almost unnoticed unless they are from a local family or community.

As a teen, I operated my own business, grinding corn and hammering feed for local farmers. Many of my customers were seasoned citizens with little formal schooling, but a lot of wisdom. Much of their wisdom came from the Bible.  I remember such comments as: “You reap what you sow.”  “Your sins will find you out.” “Sins of the father are passed on to future generations.” At that time I had little personal interest in or knowledge of Bible prophecy. In recent years, I have come to the realization that my generation has witnessed the fulfillment of a great deal of prophecy. During the learning process, it has become apparent that nations, like man, “reap what they sow.” That is what Mike Huckabee was alluding to when he said our nation “has a sin problem. And since we ordered God out of our schools and communities, and the military and public conversations, you know, we really shouldn’t act so surprised when all hell breaks loose.”

Former Times Examiner columnist Ray Simmons and his wife visited from Birmingham last month and presented me with a copy of a book titled, The Harbinger: The Ancient Mystery that holds the Secret of America’s Future, by Jonathan Cahn.

The author reaches into Bible prophecy and the history of ancient Israel and presents an illustration of America’s past, present and future that should be presented to Christians from their pulpits. The reason this subject is rarely mentioned by preachers is that when they do, they are demonized in the media by the forces of evil.

Whether we acknowledge it or not, throughout history the rise and fall of nations has been dependent on their relationship with God. Those who laid the foundation for America saw it as a new Israel “in covenant with God.” This meant that the rise or fall of this new nation would depend on its relationship with God. If it followed His ways, it would become the most blessed, prosperous, and powerful nation on earth. America rose to heights no other nation had known.

When ancient Israel fell away from God, and turned against His ways, the blessings would be removed and replaced with curses. In the middle of the twentieth century America began removing God from its national life. At first it was gradual, then it was by government decree.

Ten years after prayer and scripture were removed from schools, the government legalized the killing of its unborn. Government is now deciding who should live or die based on cost effectiveness.

Although it is not discussed publicly because of political correctness and fear of government reprisals, many Bible scholars and some pastors of churches believe God has already removed His “hedge of protection” from America.  If that is the case, 9/11 and the senseless massacres at Ft. Hood and Aurora are simply forecasts of worse things to come.

Jonathan Cahn writes: “Before its end as a nation, there appeared in ancient Israel a series of specific omens and signs warning of destruction – these same Nine Harbingers are now manifesting in America with profound ramifications for America’s future and end-time prophecy.”
