Generators, Blankets, Coats, Water Collected in Taylors

Lions in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia have pooled their resources to provide relief to the victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Thirty 4,000 watt generators were loaded aboard a UPS truck Friday in Taylors to complete the load in North Carolina with a destination of Melville, New York, to be distributed to storm victims by New York Lions.

District 32A Lions in Upstate South Carolina have already participated in shipping 4,500 gallons of drinking water to the storm victims.

On Monday, November 12 a trailer was being loaded with blankets, coats and paper products  in the parking lot of a business owned by past District Governor Jim Starnes at the intersection of West Lee Road and Wade Hampton Boulevard in Taylors.

Starns explained that there are still thousands of people out of power in the northeast and as far south as West Virginia.

Many of the storm victims with severely damaged homes are staying in their homes despite no heat, water or electricity in order to protect their possessions from looters that were not already lost in the storm. Lions District Governor Joe  Dill said it was difficult finding a large number of generators even in South Carolina, many miles from the storm devastation.

Lions are primarily involved with eye care, but become involved in  relief matters when there is a need. Lions all over the state  are contributing to this effort. They are an organization with overhead administration supported totally by dues paid by members. One hundred percent of all donations go to local or other recipients where a need exists.
