The 2019 SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament is just a few weeks away, and Mrs. Laurie Beck’s Washington Center class is All In. Mrs. Beck’s class is following women’s college basketball and cheering on their pen pal, Emmanuelle Tahane, a sophomore forward playing at the University of Missouri, who calls Bondy, France, home. Class lessons have taken on a sports theme; in ELA, we discussed letter writing, and composed our first letter to Emmanuelle.

In a Math lesson, we learned basketball court size, (94 ft by 50 ft), shape, (rectangle), and team size, (5 players each team). In a Science lesson, we compared and graphed a week’s worth of temperatures in Greenville, SC, Columbia, Missouri and Bondy, France, (Columbia, Missouri was the coldest place of the three). Finally, in a Social Studies lesson, we studied France; we listened to the alphabet, the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, and the song, “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, in French, made French flags and found Bondy ,France on a world map, (located less than 8 miles outside of Paris).  Mrs. Beck’s class is looking forward to exchanging letters with Emmanuelle, showing off what we have learned about her home country, and following Mizzou basketball. GO TIGERS!
