Joseph Evan Davis Chapter 907, Children of the Confederacy, met on Saturday, January 18, 2014. Pastor Mark Evans, Chaplain-in-Chief of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and Camp Chaplain of the 16th Regiment, Camp 36, Greenville SCV, was the speaker for the meeting. He presented a program on the Christian character of General Robert E. Lee and General Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson. Miss Allison Bolt, Vice President, presided in the absence of our President Andrew Myers. A membership certificate was presented to Mr. William Bolt, the youngest chapter member, who became an official member as a "birth baby" when he was only five minutes old!! Mrs. Pam Durham, Assistant Chapter Director, presented insignia to three chapter officers: Miss Allison Bolt, Miss Chandler Tucker, and Mr. Jackson Tucker. Mrs. Durham made and sold Confederate book marks and used the proceeds of the sales to purchase insignia for these three members. Mr. Hampton Chumley reported on events that occurred 150 years ago in January of 1864 for our Sesquicentennial Remembrance of the War Between the States. Chapter members brought food items to be donated to Back Pack Ministries and Angel Ministries, our project for January. Our February project will be the donation of coats, clothing and household items to Miracle Hill Ministries. Our ongoing projects continue throughout the year: collection of cancelled postage stamps for Wounded Warriors, aluminum pop tops for Ronald McDonald house, small toiletries for Safe Harbor and Shepherd's Gate, front portion of greeting cards for St. Jude's Children's Hospital, and box tops and labels for education. Our fund raiser of selling Greenville Woman's Club cookbooks continues. We only have 7 copies left. Please contact our Chapter Director if you wish to purchase one. Our February meeting will be on Saturday, February 15th. Each family will present a brief account of their ancestor(s)' service in the War Between the States. We plan to prepare a tri-fold Presentation Board with each ancestor's information and a picture, if available, to have on display at our chapter meetings to keep alive the memory of our ancestors' brave service. The Children of the Confederacy is an organization for young people from birth through eighteen years, who have Confederate ancestry. We invite you to visit our meetings and to consider becoming a part of our organization. Winnie Davis Chapter 442, United Daughters of the Confederacy,  sponsors Joseph Evan Davis Chapter 907.
