Ben Pittman presented the first annual veteran’s Wall of Honor award to Brigadier General Wayne Brock during a Veterans Day program in the school auditorium with the school’s Air Force JROTC cadets and invited local veterans, including 3 World War II veterans who were in attendance.

Gen. Brock is a 1976 graduate of Wade Hampton and a 1980 graduate of The Citadel. He currently commands a Signal Brigade at Ft. Gordon, Georgia.

Gen. Brock explained that he was not wearing a dress uniform because he has troops in the fields that he will join when he returns to Ft. Gordon and other troops currently serving in Iraq. Gen. Brock expects to be reassigned to Afghanistan in the spring of 2010.

Following the presentation of the award, Gen. Brock addressed the cadets and veterans present. He suggested cadets “Remember, of all the veterans that are out there, there are only two people who have ever given their lives so that others may be free: They are Jesus Christ and the American soldier. If you look around the world, there are very few soldiers other than the American troops buried (overseas) (who died) for the freedom of someone else.”
