From all parts of the Upstate, they came today to Greenville County Square, in support of the Nationwide Rally for Religious Freedom. An enormous cross-section of our country was present to express their support, concern with respect to current topics of Health Care and the issues at the Supreme Court of the United States. Young and old; Veterans from WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan; Mothers and daughters; Fathers and sons; Family and friends; Elected officials and of course, the media, gathered freely to exercise their Rights of Freedom of Religion, Speech and Assembly.

They all converged at noon today to hear words of encouragement and inspiration from local Tea Party member Don Rogers and Bill Rhodes, also local educator and activist Lor Cunningham.  The assembled citizens paused for prayer and the singing of our National Anthem lead by Dr. Nicky Chavers, President of The Academy of Arts.  Pastor Tony Romo welcomed the crowd and spoke heartfelt words of thanks to all who had gathered. He gave a personal testimonial about how freedom of religion was a key part of how he came to be where he was today and how wonderful America was to grant us these Rights. He was followed by Pastor Stan Craig who warmed quickly to the audience with a fervent “sermon” of “How things had changed in our country and we need to correct that.” State Senator Lee Bright (SC 12th District) spoke briefly in support of the event and related how, “At the time he decided to run for Senate he was challenged to choose if he was  called to ‘preach’ or serve the people” to which a friend of his replied, “You should preach from the floor [of the State House]!”

Several patriotic songs were led and joined-in by the crowd, which was decorated with flags, banners and red-white-and-blue colors everywhere. Precinct Patriot Pack representative Chris Lawton read a letter of support and encouragement from Congressmen Trey Gowdy in Washington, D.C.  Present in the audience and publically recognized were the current candidates for SC Senate – Chad Groover, Jane Kizer, Jim Lee, and Chris Sullivan. Senator Mike Fair and Representative Gary Smith also joined in the event, listening and talking to their constituents while enjoying the company of Conservative-minded citizens.
