“Fearless” Texan Backed by DeMint Rising Force in GOP

Sen-Cruz-HeadlinesSouth Carolina Republicans honored Former Senator Jim DeMint and his wife, Saturday, May 4, during the 46th  annual Silver Elephant Celebration in Columbia. Texas Senator Ted Cruz was the dynamic guest speaker.

Cruz, whose parents escaped Castro’s Cuba, said he would not be in the United States Senate today were it not for Jim DeMint who campaigned for him and several other conservative senators including Rand Paul and Marco Rubio, who are making headlines in Washington. (More about DeMint in the next issue).

Cruz connected with his South Carolina audience immediately by invoking the name Travis and another South Carolinian who fought to the death in defense of the Alamo.

The senator spoke forcefully and eloquently without notes, covering the important national and international issues of the day. He joined with Sen. Paul to filibuster until the White House defined their policy on killing Americans in this country with drones.

His address in Columbia caught the attention of Democrats who discussed Cruz on ABC’s This Week.

“I think he is the most talented and fearless Republican politician I’ve seen in the past 30 years,” said former Clinton adviser and political analyst “serpent head” James Carville.

“I’ve listened to excerpts from his speech in South Carolina. He touches every button, and this guy has no fear. He just keeps plowing ahead. And he is going to be something to watch.”
