The movie 13 Hours began showing in theaters in Greenville and across the country last Friday. The movie is based on the book 13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi. This very accurate movie is recommended for anyone who would like to know the truth about the attack on the diplomatic compound in Benghazi that resulted in the death of four Americans that was mishandled by the Obama Administration and has resulted in investigations to this day. American Ambassador Christopher Stevens, State Department Communications Officer Sean Smith, former Navy SEALs Tyrone “Rone” Woods and Glen “Bub” Doherty died while fighting off a terrorist attack and pleading for help from their government that never arrived because it was never sent.

Since the presidency of Abraham Lincoln, the States have allowed the Federal Government to assume powers reserved to the states by the Constitution of the United States. President Lincoln by an act of war seized powers prohibited by the Constitution. The state legislatures have routinely allowed the federal government to take over responsibilities clearly reserved for the states such as the public education of children.

Both the Democrat and Republican Parties have delegated more legislative powers to the President and to the courts. We now have courts making law and overriding laws voted on by the people and passed by their elected lawmakers. For the past seven years, President Obama has created laws by Executive Order and has selectively enforced those Congressionally passed laws and refused to enforce those laws that do not enhance his agenda. With one year to go in his second and final term, Obama is threatening to take drastic actions in defiance of Congress and the American people.

As we enter the New Year, there are many challenges ahead. As we attempt to forecast the future, there are reasons to be optimistic and hopeful. Much of the optimism is based on hopes to reverse some of the attempts of the current administration to “transform” the Constitutional republic created by our Forefathers and reestablish the credibility of a powerful world leader.

Tragically, while President Obama has been busy destroying the institutions and traditions of the American republic and using the armed forces as laboratories for social experimentation, the potential enemies of our nation have been growing in strength and taking advantage of our leadership void on the world stage.

Having been active in the Republican Party for more than 30 years, I have observed and been part of efforts to reform the party from the ground up. As pressure has built to make the national and state parties more responsive and accountable to the people, the professional politicians and political consultants began to realize that their lucrative careers were in jeopardy. That is when they began to push back.

The sudden rise of the national Tea Party in the final months of the George W. Bush administration terrified the Republican Party leadership and fellow travelers. Hundreds of thousands of regular folks showed up in Washington, D. C. demanding smaller government, lower taxes and less intrusive bureaucrats. They were not led or controlled by the Republicans or Democrats, they were simply free Americans demanding better representation in Washington.
