The Passing of a Giant Influence in Upstate, SC
- By James Spurck, Publisher
Colonel Bobby M. Dill Is Now At Peace With His Wife LaVerle
Colonel Bobby M. Dill, the Founder of The Times Examiner has gone on to be with his Lord on August 14, 2023, just ten days after turning 91 years old. All those who have been in politics, not just in the Upstate of SC but in South Carolina, know very well his influence here. But some of you may not know his influence within America's military and how The Times Examiner came to be. In honor of his memory, we will publish the following article that was published in the 2nd Anniversary edition of the June 5th, 1996 issue of The Times Examiner.
May God be with his family and friends as they prepare to honor a man and a legend here in the upstate of South Carolina. God bless his memory. Details of funeral and visitation arrangements will be forth coming.

Faith, Experience Motivate Publishers
Published by the Editor of The Times Examiner on Wednesday, June 5, 1996
Editor’s note: “How did you ever get into this?” people ask Bob and LaVerle Dill, owners of The Times Examiner. As the paper begins its third year of publication, we’ll try to answer that question and also introduce you to members of our newspaper “family.”
Bob and LaVerle Dill never dreamed they would one day publish a newspaper. In fact, they agreed to an early retirement beginning in July 1980.
No more stress, no more late night and weekend work. It would be wonderful.
But as time passed, there was a void. There was so much to be done, and others seemed too busy to do it.
Back in Greenville County, after an absence of 30 years, except for visits, they noticed that things seemed different. People complained about schools, government, taxes, undependable public officials, declining moral, and ethical standards, and "the media." Greenville was becoming a miniature Washington, DC - a place about which the Dills knew plenty.

In Memory Of A Titan: Bobby Dill
- By W.H. Lamb
We all know it is inevitable—that instant that we breathe out our final breath, perhaps knowing that there is no more “breathing in” the next breath, and we take that first step into Eternity when the “thump, thump, thump” in our chest makes its final “thump”. When our Creator made “man”, we were the only living creature on this planet that realized its own mortality—that knew from our youth that our lives were finite, that we had only so many “heart thumps”—so many sunrises and sunsets—so many changes of seasons—before we joined that vast number of humans who have gone before us, ever since our Creator made the first male and female in His beautiful Garden. That instant, for Col. Bob, came in the early morning of August 14, 2023.

Federal School-Choice Suit Raises Questions About Future Court, Legislative Actions
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
A federal appeals court has dismissed a lawsuit claiming that a state constitutional provision banning direct public funding of religious or other private schools in South Carolina was rooted in religious and racial bigotry.
But it’s unclear whether the ruling last month by a panel of the Virginia-based U.S. 4th Court of Appeals will affect legislative efforts to remove the constitutional provision through a statewide ballot measure, or a predicted legal challenge to historic school-choice legislation passed this year.

Planned Parenthood, ACLU Fight to Keep Child Marriage Legal
- By Suzanne Bowdey - The Washington Stand
If you think child brides are the stuff of faraway cultures, think again. In 2017, child marriage was legal in all 50 U.S. states. Only recently have survivors started chipping away at the practice, using their nightmarish stories to put a stop to the abuse of (mostly) young girls. California was next in line to outlaw the horror, until a shocking number of national groups swooped in to keep the under-18 unions legal. Who are they and how can they justify their crusade? Answer: social extremists with one goal — protecting teenage abortion and transgenderism.

Parents, Authors, and Lawmakers Team Up to Protect Children
- By Eagle Forum
Who is schooling who?
As parents are stocking their shopping carts with pencils, paper, and other classroom items, the cost at the cash register isn’t the biggest thing weighing on their minds. With politics and extreme agendas driving curriculum in public schools, parents are concerned about what their children will face and if they will be able to advocate for their child’s well-being. Incredible responses to this agenda from individuals, organizations, and conservative members of Congress have assured parents that they are willing to stand alongside them in this fight for our children.
