Rev. J. M. Flemming, President of the Greenville, South Carolina  NAACP, and another member of his organization asked the Greenville County Legislative Delegation to initiate legislation to create a special prosecutor to prosecute law enforcement officers who shoot unarmed citizens especially young black men. They said such legislation would help the community get ahead of the power curve on situations such as occurred in St. Louis. The proposal was made during the Monday, January 12, 2015 meeting of the Greenville County  Legislative Delegation at Greenville County Square.

Rev. Flemming said that the reason we are not facing what they faced in St. Louis is that four months ago every city in Greenville County: city manager, chief of police and sheriff met with the NAACP in a strategy session to try to prevent those things from happening here.

The things they are attempting to prevent were not specifically identified, however, the St. Louis area experienced everything from peaceful protests to rioting , looting and arson.

He said they are working together to solve some of the problems that have surfaced in the community and that they have made significant progress.

Members of the Legislative Delegations asked no questions and made no comments regarding the special prosecutor proposal during the meeting.
