House Voting on Legislation to Stop China’s Takeover of American Manufacturing
- By Eagle Forum
This week, the U.S. House of Representatives will vote on legislation to nullify a rule that allows China to manufacture electric vehicle (EV) chargers. S.J. Res. 38 uses the Congressional Review Act to reign in the powers of bureaucrats who try to use the power of the pen to rewrite existing law. Our Representatives are taking action to protect American manufacturing through this process.
The Trump administration put America first by creating policies that move American businesses away from China and prioritizing American products. When Joe Biden saw that the American people wanted this, he rode President Trump’s coattails and introduced his “Buy American” campaign plan. Some of these policies were placed into the 2021 infrastructure bill, including requiring EV chargers to be made mostly of American-made materials. Now, he’s clawing those provisions back.

Defense Sec. Austin’s Vanishing Trick Stuns and Vexes Both Sides
- By Suzanne Bowdey - The Washington Stand
When people criticize the Biden administration’s lack of leadership, they usually don’t mean it literally. But Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin’s decision to keep his days-long hospitalization a secret from everyone (including the president) has rocked the D.C. establishment. Not since the Supreme Court leaker — a mystery that remains unsolved — has the political world been so stunned by a breach of protocol. What possible “elective surgery” could have made the chief of America’s military operations AWOL at such a critical time? And why on earth wouldn’t he tell his team?

Trafficking, Terrorism, and Trauma: Speaker Johnson Describes What Republicans Saw at the Border
- By Ben Johnson - The Washington Stand
During their trip to the southern border, dozens of congressmen saw a spectacle of human traffickers, military-aged men from terrorist nations, and the “unconscionable” indifference of the Biden administration to the cries of its own citizens. They returned ready to use “every ounce” of their influence to protect the victims they saw, said Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-La.).
“This is my third trip to the border, but it was the largest congressional delegation that’s ever made the trip: 64 House Republicans were there, representing 26 states and one U.S. territory,” said Speaker Johnson on “Washington Watch with Tony Perkins” the day after Wednesday’s border visit. “It really does make a difference to be there in person, on the ground, talking with the stakeholders: the patriotic, heroic Border Patrol officers and the sheriffs who are charged with keeping order down there.”

House GOP Raises the Stakes: 'Shut the Border Down or Shut the Government Down'
- By Suzanne Bowdey - The Washington Stand
While the rest of Congress is soaking up the last few days of holiday recess, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) decided to cut his vacation short, opting instead to take 60 House Republicans on a detour to the southern border before Congress resumes next week. If the goal was to remind them what they’re fighting for in the standoff on immigration with Joe Biden, it succeeded.
With December’s record-breaking migrant crossings as a backdrop, this “show of force,” as many are calling it, aims to put more pressure on the White House to negotiate on reforms in real faith. “Life along the border is turned upside down,” host Congressman Tony Gonzales (R-Texas) told reporters, “and that’s exactly what the speaker and my colleagues are going to see.”
