What S.C. Officials Don't 'Really, Really' Want You to Know About Incentives
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
“Tell me what you want, what you really, really want.”
It’s not entirely clear if Gov. Henry McMaster, 76, is a devoted fan of the 1990s British pop group, Spice Girls, but he gave a short, modified version of their 1996 hit song, “Wannabe,” at a recent meeting of the Greater Cayce-West Columbia Chamber of Commerce, according to a story published by the South Carolina Daily Gazette.
The Republican McMaster used the song’s lyrics to describe the state’s position on providing taxpayer-funded training to companies seeking to locate or expand in South Carolina – which is commonly part of large incentives deals and can total in the millions of dollars, as The Nerve has pointed out over the years.
The Jihadic Concept of War
- By Mike Scruggs
The Sun Tzu and Joshua Questions
On January 11, 2020, I published an article entitled “The Quranic Concept of War.” This was basically a review and analysis of Pakistani Brigadier General S. K. Malik’s 158-page book, published in English in 2015 and entitled, The Quranic Concept of War. Malik’s book had an enthusiastic 25- page forward written by Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq who, following a 1977 coup had made himself President of Pakistan in 1978. Zia died in a plane crash in 1988.
An Early Christmas Story—Again!
- By W.H. Lamb
Note: This touching story was published in The Times Examiner last December 2022. But it touched a lot of people. “Christmas”, as we all should know, is NOT about Santa Claus and his reindeer bringing us presents, nor about snowmen or “grinches”. It’s not even about “Charlie Brown” and his wonderful recitation of the true meaning of Christmas, right from God’s Word. (THANK YOU, Charles Schultz for your brave stand, long ago, against CBS). It’s not really about family gatherings, with special dinners, although they are usually memorable. It’s not about getting lots of presents, mostly stuff we don’t really need. Christmas is more about “giving”, more about focusing on one’s true faith and sharing it with others. It’s about doing, not just talking. Christmas is about----------well, I’ll leave that up to you to decide.
Do Creationists Hold a Conspiracy Theory?
- By Charles Creager, Jr.
The charge is sometimes made the creation is claim that evolutionary scientists in the government are hiding evidence in support of Biblical creation. While there may be some that take this kind of position, they are a definite minority. This claim requires a couple of false ideas. The first is that interpreting evidence is 100% objective and that some powerful evolutionists see the truth and are hiding it from people. Neither one of these is true, nor doesn't need to be for creation to be correct.
Dr. Alveda King and Dr. Ginger Howard Launch Group for Spiritually Active Government Engaged Women
- By Christian Newswire
Women
ATLANTA -- On Tuesday, SHE LEADS GEORGIA, a newly launched initiative, recognized 50 women of faith for their commitment to modeling servant leadership. The women were each pinned as "commissioners" in reference to the Great Commission as articulated in Matthew 28:16-20. The scripture underlines the call to share the Gospel with all nations.
Why Does Washington Want to Destroy America's 'Magnificent 7'?
- By Stephen Moore
Nothing exemplifies America's tech industry dominance in the global economy more than the meteoric rise of what is now being called the "Magnificent Seven" stocks -- Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia and Tesla. These companies single-handedly account for nearly all the gains in the stock market this year. They -- which is to say we as American shareholders who own them -- have a net worth of nearly $10 trillion.
Think about it. None of these gazelles are Japanese, German or Chinese. All seven are American companies. They are globally dominant. They are innovators nearly unrivaled in human history. Amazingly, you would think their best years are behind them, like an aging baseball player. No. They are getting stronger, not weaker.
Is Eating Meat Bad For You? 5 Myths Debunked
- By Press Release
They say eating meat is bad for you and the environment. We’re here to debunk those myths and more!
Looks like meat’s back on the menu.
These days, you needn't look far to find claims that meat is unhealthy. The anti-meat crowd has grown into an entire industry, empowering themselves with a laundry list of claims like:
-
Eating meat is generally bad for you
-
It leads to heart disease, stroke, and diabetes
-
And meat hurts the environment
The people who cite these claims may be well-intentioned, but they are not well-informed. The science that guides them is not only outdated but, in many cases, it was wrong from the start.
Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis Graduates With Honors From NGU
- By Billy Cannada - NGU
“Leaders have to be able to equip those around them with the tools they need to do the job. They also have to be willing to pick the tools up and do the work themselves.”
Those are reflections from Greenville County Sheriff Hobart Lewis, who graduated from North Greenville University with a degree in criminal justice on Friday, December 8.
Lewis has served the county as sheriff since 2020.
FBI Raids Traditional Catholic Family’s Home over Son’s Memes
- By S.A. McCarthy - The Washington Stand
The Biden administration’s FBI is once again targeting faithful Catholic Americans by raiding a Catholic family’s home. According to a report from American Greatness, the Rufini family were “dragged out of their home at gunpoint, handcuffed and locked in a van” by FBI agents earlier this year.
According to Jeremiah Rufini, his 15-year-old son was targeted for posting allegedly “offensive” memes online and in social media group chats, prompting the FBI’s raid. Rufini also alleges that undercover FBI agents infiltrated “right wing” social media chat groups, befriended his son there, and convinced or “goaded” him to generate content which they could then target.
DeSantis Addresses Packed House at Greer Depot
- By Terry M. Thacker
A standing-room-only crowd of over 500 Republican voters and activists sardined themselves into the Historic Greer Depot this past Friday morning to hear from presidential candidate Ron DeSantis.
The Florida governor was in the Palmetto state stumping in Greer and later in Prosperity. South Carolina always receives a lot of attention from presidential aspirants during election season because of our early primary.
Several local elected officials were in attendance, including state Senator Josh Kimbrell, who introduced DeSantis. The Bob Jones Academy orchestra provided Christmas music for the event. WORD 98.9 talk show hosts Tara Servatius and Charlie James served as moderators.

Deadly Storm Clouds Rising
- By Mike Scruggs
While America Sleeps
It has been 248 years since the American Colonies declared their independence from Great Britain. Through the awesome Providence of God’s favor, He raised us up from insignificance and brought us through many hardships, dangers, and struggles to become the most powerful, most prosperous, and most freedom-blessed nation in the world. We have spent our tears and blood in this continuous struggle, but it was the Lord of Hosts who guided us and planted and nurtured our determination to persevere. We have raised mighty armies and mighty industries, and achieved spectacular technological advances, but it was always though His kind Providences that we succeeded in our building and in our victories. It has always been His invisible but invincible Arm that has defended us and brought confusion and defeat upon our enemies.
Will a nation that turns its back upon its God-given blessings and protection from its enemies do so without consequences? Will a nation that turns its back upon God’s Word and teachings continue to prosper? Will a nation that openly defies God’s standards long enjoy peace and security? In his 1978 Commencement address at Harvard University, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn summed up how the Russian people had fallen into what turned out to be over 70 years of oppression, suffering, and brutality under Soviet Communism, in which some 60 million people were “swallowed up:”
Mohler: Left-Wing Anti-Semitism Motivated by 'Hatred of God'
- By Joshua Arnold - The Washington Stand
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) on Wednesday took the rare step of rebuking his own party’s left flank for anti-Semitism, criticizing them for believing that the principle, “Injustice against one oppressed group is injustice against all … does not extend to the Jewish people.” Schumer usually deploys his speeches to benefit Democrats at Republicans’ expense, but an increasing tally of violent anti-Semitic incidents in progressive strongholds has grown too glaring to ignore. In a Thursday conversation on “Washington Watch,” Southern Seminary President Albert Mohler said left-wing attacks on Jews ultimately boiled down to their “hatred of God.”
Supreme Court Justice Defends Secretive Disciplinary System
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
At a recent S.C. House special committee hearing on judicial reform, Supreme Court Justice John Kittredge touted the “almost non-existent” number of ethics violations committed by state judges.
“Each week, members of the judiciary receive a report of all the ethical violations of judges around the country, and regrettably, it’s a pretty long list,” Kittredge said at the Nov. 7 hearing, the first of two public meetings held so far by the committee.
“But what you don’t see on that long list for every other state in the country,” Kittredge, 67, of Greenville, continued, “is you don’t see reports of South Carolina judges being reprimanded, being sanctioned, being removed.”
The Past Is Always “Prologue," But So Is The Present!
- By W.H. Lamb
THE TRAGIC STORY OF “THE WHITE SHIP”
First off, let’s define the word: “prologue”. Webster’s defines it as ‘anintroductory or preceding event or development’. In a literary work it is often called a ‘preface’, a commentary or explanation that the author includes to clarify the story or the facts that are to follow. The term, ‘the past is prologue’, tells us that, in real life, almost EVERYTHING in the past can bea prologue—or a causative event-- to whatfollows it. Thus, my responding to my “four-legged alarm clock” at 8:30 a.m., and dragging myself out of bed this morning was my ‘prologue’ to getting her breakfast and taking her out for her “morning activity”. That’s a fairly easy concept to grasp. What is more complicated to fathom is how the past of each one of us—I mean the really “long gone past”—has affected who we are, into what family we were born, and even in what country we originated. Now that’s kind of deep, isn’t it? In addition, it’s quite fascinating to “conjecture” various “present scenarios” resulting from a series of “past prologues” that might have happened but didn’t, e.g. a person of the past never existed or an event of the past never occurred. How would that affect our present? In some cases perhaps not at all, or only minimally. In other cases world history would be changed.

“We realize that is will cause inconveniences and disappointments, but we appreciate everyone’s patience,” said Matt Jennings, event organizer and Owner of Cherokee Valley Course and Club. “This is a great event for our community. National Non-Profit Blasts Documentary 'Between Life & Death: Terri Schiavo's Story' an Inaccurate Cover-up on a Tragic Tale
- By Christian Newswire
Film Released on December 3rd - Terri's Birthday - Her Legacy Deserves Better
WASHINGTON -- Yesterday, MSNBC released a 90-minute documentary chronicling the case of Terri Schiavo. Sadly, it failed to capture the real human tragedy that was a woman being forcibly starved and dehydrated to death over 13 agonizing days. Further, it was quite unfortunate that the producers chose to frame this story of horrific abuse through a false lens of supposed "compassion" instead of portraying the real story of what transpired.
We recognize that condensing years, if not decades, of events into a 90-minute video is difficult. Still, the final product does not present even a fair portrayal of the brutality that Terri had to endure at the hands of Michael Schiavo and the Florida courts, which enabled his actions.
John C. Calhoun and the Providential Progress of Technology and Government
- By Winston McCuen - South Carolina
We moderns are awash in technology. Technology frames our lives physically and mentally, and often — despite its benefits -- dominates us to our detriment, reaching farther into us than we care to admit -- even into our inner depths, spiritually.
More than mere inventions and devices, technology in its deepest sense is a mode of life and of living. It is a powerful and seductive force —ever promising greater ease and convenience and pleasure and titillation and thrill, in limitless or infinite series. An aggressive force with a momentum of its own, it competes with and often overwhelms and overshadows other, healthier, and more civilizing values and ways and rhythms of living.
Senators Try to Tie Up Loose Ends Before Christmas
- By Press Release
Senators Feel the Christmas Crunch
After several rough months for Congress — deposing the Speaker and wrestling over funding the government through the holidays — it may seem that the major issues are out of the way for the rest of 2023. Government funding will continue, via a continuing resolution, through January 2024 and several reauthorizations that still need to be passed (such as the Federal Aviation Administration bill) are not controversial. However, there are real disagreements over abortion funding, immigration, and foreign aid that Congress must resolve before the end of the year.
America, France and the Free Market
- By Veronique de Rugy
It's fashionable to claim that the free-market ideas of Nobel-laureate economist Milton Friedman have failed the country, and that it's time for new policies. Campaigning in 2020, Joe Biden declared that "Milton Friedman isn't running the show anymore." More recently, New York Times columnist David Leonhardt noted that people like Friedman promised that the free market "would bring prosperity for all. It has not."
This is nonsense. For one thing, I wish we lived in a world fashioned more fully by Friedman's ideas. Sadly, while his insights have indeed influenced some U.S. economic policies, particularly during the Reagan administration, the extent of their implementation has been quite limited.
Americans Put the Holiday Hurt on Disney, Target, Others as Boycotts Bleed into Christmas
- By Suzanne Bowdey - The Washington Stand
When Disney CEO Bob Iger sat down to talk with employees about his bumpy year at the helm Tuesday, he said, “I knew there were myriad challenges that I would face.” What he didn’t count on was those “myriad challenges” being millions of still-angry Americans. After management ran the brand into the ground over a popular parental rights’ law last year, nothing seems to be rehabilitating the company’s image. Even the second coming of Iger, who was behind the wheel for some of Disney’s best chapters, hasn’t brought back the magic for consumers. Now, staring down a holiday season with crashing stocks, box office losers, and even less goodwill, will Iger stop riding this polarized express?
Green Groups Are No Longer Promoting a Cleaner Environment
- By Stephen Moore
The late, great humorist P.J. O'Rourke used to quip that everyone wants to save the world, but no one wants to wash the dishes.
Well, now that can be said for traditional environmental groups that seem to have lost their way.
Green groups are supposed to be about keeping our rivers, lakes and streams clean. They are supposed to be about fighting litter and keeping toxic chemicals out of the air. Their job is to maintain the beauty of our national parks and save elephants and tigers.
Progressive Public High School Offers Race-Segregated Classes
- By Joshua Arnold - The Washington Stand
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies have grown so diverse that they now include policies reminiscent of the Jim Crow era. A Chicago-area school district is attempting to boost academic achievement among black and Latino students by offering blacks-only and Latino-only classes. The segregated classes are called “affinity” classes, and they aim to reduce the so-called “academic achievement gap” by making black and Latino students feel more comfortable in class.
As Evanston, Ill. School Board Vice President Monique Parsons described the problem this month, “Our black students are, for lack of a better word … at the bottom, consistently still. And they are being outperformed consistently.” Evanston could have offered extra tutoring, parent engagement programs, or similar interventions. Instead, they offered special black-only classes taught by black teachers, on the theory that black students would learn better without white peers around.
How To Fix Our Broken Culture
- By Star Parker
Recently published projections for the U.S. population from the U.S. Census Bureau present a picture that should concern every American.
It's a snapshot of a dying society. It's surprising and shocking that it's not getting more attention.
The Census Bureau projects that the U.S. population will stop growing toward the end of the century. After peaking at 370 million in 2080, it will drop to 366 million in 2100, less than 10% higher than where it stood in 2022.
Religious Freedom Victory -- U.S. Capitol Tree Removes Ban on Ornaments Displaying 'Religious Symbols' from Being Displayed on the 2023 Tree
- By Christian Defense Coalition
WASHINGTON -- In past years, the guidelines for submitting ornaments to be displayed on the U.S. Capitol Christmas included the phrase; "Decorations cannot include religious symbols."
That meant ornaments which included; Nativity Displays, the Christ-Child or the Holy Family would be prohibited.
This year, the prohibition on religious symbols from being displayed on U.S. Capitol Tree has been removed from the 2023 ornament guidelines. See link:https://www.uscapitolchristmastree.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/230329_MakeAnOrnament-Flyer.pdf
