Who's Calling the Shots?
- By Ray Simmons
The more I see, the more I hear, the more certain I am that we who were born into the Greatest Generation have failed to pass on the elements of culture that created that generation and made it the Greatest. We refer to this current generation as the millennials. Do we know what that term means? It seems to me they think they are people replacing the past millennium and it is their duty to tell us how we are to live the next millennium. Their big problem is, in attempting to show us how smart they are, they are revealing their stupidity and their total lack of common sense. It seems that Washington might be spreading that disease; I’ve noticed a lot of smart people who go there seem to lose their common sense pretty quick.

Jesus Who?
- By Ray Simmons
It seems there are hundreds and hundreds of books being written these days about how America is being taken over by big government and “we the people” are being ignored or becoming inconsequential, and apparently our youngest generations have been educated to think that “big government” is the way to go. Yesterday I saw a young man being interviewed on the Tucker Carlson show; from his responses I consider him a far-left liberal / progressive. It was obvious he has no understanding of the true nature of government, especially socialism. Nor did he appear to know the history of the nation in which he lives or the effect of open borders on the economy of a nation. I fear he is a living representative of the youth we have created. His attitude was one similar to my own at his age: I knew everything and my approach was always right. The main difference; my education was real history, good economics and a full understanding of socialism and its history. I was sometimes wrong, but my errors were not dangerous to my country.

What Made America Great VI
- By Ray Simmons
My effort in this series of articles has been to present a condensed version of American history that may help the reader see and better understand our history, which he may or may not not have been properly taught. I thought if one realizes the miracle of the government we were given he might work to retain it. At the writing of number one I thought a general overview would be sufficient until a friend said, “Write a series.” Number two was basically comparing a Democracy with a Republic. Number three considered a few of the men who actually wrote our Constitution. Number four was essentially devoted to the religious nature under which the founding fathers were raised and had to deal with in the decisions they were called on to make. Number five was an attempt to show the nature of the Constitution they wrote. I hope in this, number six, to touch on the conditions that made the miracle possible.

First of all I owe you guys my humble apology. On number IV an observant reader reminded me of an erroneous date I had lifted and failed to verify, which also caused me to miscount years. I should have caught it but I didn’t. The 1778 dates should have been 1787. Sorry ‘bout that.

What Made America Great IV
- By Ray Simmons
Writing these articles has revealed to me how much I don’t know about our early history. I’m having fun finding out about it. This one will talk a little about our Constitution and take a look at our colonial religious activities. The Constitutional Convention convened on May 25, 1778 and was signed on September 17, 1778, nearly four months of meetings, proposals, objections and discussions. The first State to ratify it was Delaware on December 7, 1787. On June 21, 1788 New Hampshire became the 9thState to ratify and the Constitution was activated. On May 19, 1790 Rhode Island became the 13th State to Ratify. The Bill of Rights was ratified 12/15/1791.
