America: Drifting Towards Venezuela?

Now that the elections in Venezuela are over, the anticipated results are final: President Nicolas Maduro has won. Well, that is, he claims to have won, but actual results say otherwise. Reports from the various polling areas say the opposition candidates, Edmundo Gonzalez and Corina Machado, won—and by a landslide, some saying by a 70% margin.
Of course, Maduro denied this, and the police and army were called out to “bring order” back to the country. The Strongman refuses to budge, and by all indications, he isn’t going anywhere soon.
So much for a South American country run by a dictator. Aren’t we glad we live in America where something like this could never happen?
The Presidential Race and the Common Sense of the American People

Now that Joe Biden has been removed from the Presidential race, even appearing from the Oval Office to tell us in vagaries about the reasons why, the American public must now address what kind of President they really want.
With Kamala Harris stepping into the Democratic forefront, there is building excitement on the Left to anoint her as the new standard bearer. Whether she will actually be the Democratic nominee is yet to be seen; the winds of politics blow in very strange ways these days.
The issues going forward can be seen as a gaggle of complicated situations, or simply the application of common sense.
Is the country so turned off by Trump, especially his carrying of felony convictions, that they would turn to a Kamala Harris, whose liberal pedigree cannot be denied?
Can Netanyahu Still be a Hero?

In the fog of war, if we are honest, we often find it difficult to determine who is a hero and who is a war criminal. There is no better situation to illustrate this than the present Hamas-Israeli conflict.
One can argue that the Israeli bombardment of Gaza has been quite “over the top” to quote President Biden. No one really knows the exact casualty figures as the information coming out of the conflict area is mostly from Hamas operatives, a questionable source indeed.
However, one thing that cannot be denied is that most of the flak taken for the alleged 30,000 plus dead, and many wounded, has been Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He is viewed by many in the international community as an out of control despot ethnically cleansing the Gaza strip, not so much to protect his country, but to grab more land for the notion of “Greater Israel.”
Should the US Rethink Its Mid-East Policies?

There are times when even world powers need to step back from long held policies that have been the hallmark of what they consider to be protecting their interests.
Countries do this, not because of cowardice or to save money allocations, but for very pragmatic reasons: to prevent wide-spread conflagrations that may endanger, not only them, but many other countries and people.
Such may very well be the issue at hand for the US vis-à-vis its Mid-East policy. While Israel has been a long-standing ally for many years—and it has been American policy to fund and support it—it is now involved in a conflict that that has seen thousands killed, including now US service people.
Israel, Hamas—and the Fatal Flaw That Will Affect the World

Recently the world has beheld acts of violence and carnage that were only believed to exist in a nightmare—or Hollywood horror movie: innocent men, women, and children, indeed, babes, slaughtered at the hands of Hamas terrorists.
We could puzzle on how the Israeli government and the Mossad, perhaps the most efficient and sophisticated intelligence gathering organization in the world, missed a terrorist operation that was meticulously planned—with some training done in the open.
But that is beside the point now. Israel is in a state of war that will have grand implications, not only for the Jewish state, but for the world.
