UPSTATE SOUTH CAROLINA

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Rep. Trey Gowdy (SC-4) released the following statement on his committee assignments for the 113th Congress.  Mr. Gowdy will serve on the House Committees on Education and the Workforce, Ethics, Judiciary, and Oversight and Government Reform.

Mr. Gowdy will also serve as Chairman of the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security for the House Committee on Judiciary. “As Chairman of the Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee, Rep. Gowdy will play a leading role on immigration reform which is a top priority of the House Judiciary Committee in the new Congress,” said Chairman-elect Bob Goodlatte.  “I think Rep. Gowdy will do an excellent job in this new leadership position and I look forward to working with him in the 113th Congress.”

Speaker Boehner said, “In his first term in Congress, Trey has proven to be a valuable investigator and someone who knows how to ask the right questions.  He is a fact-centered man of reason who approaches his committee work with a sense of fairness and civility. I have all the confidence that Trey will be a great steward of the public's trust.”

Rep. Gowdy added, “I am honored to receive the new committee assignment and subcommittee post. Thank you to Speaker Boehner and Chairman Goodlatte for their faith in this added responsibility.  The American people deserve a civil debate from their officials.  Our conversation must be based on facts and built on the foundation of our laws.”
