The Upstate earns a place near the top in a national comparison of 2024 presidential voting.
Greenville has another national ranking to add to its résumé, and this one comes with a distinctly red ribbon. A map featured by Brilliant Maps places the Greenville metropolitan area third among the most Republican of the nation’s 100 largest metro areas. For local Republicans, that is a fun bit of hometown recognition, with only Provo, Utah, and Knoxville, Tennessee, finishing ahead of Greenville.
The comparison, credited to Josh Metcalf at VoteHub and featured in a September 28 post, uses 2024 presidential election results within metropolitan statistical boundaries. Greenville posted a Republican winning margin of 33.5 percentage points, behind Provo’s 41.9 points and Knoxville’s 35 points. That puts Greenville just 1.5 points behind second place and ahead of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Ogden, Utah, which rounded out the top five.
A Little Bragging Room for the Upstate
The recognition belongs to a sizable stretch of the Upstate. The Greenville-Anderson-Greer metropolitan area includes Greenville, Anderson, Laurens and Pickens counties, bringing together communities whose combined presidential vote earned the region its third-place finish. From Greenville’s neighborhoods to the surrounding towns and countryside, this is a regional ribbon worth sharing.
Greenville County contributed plenty of Republican votes of its own. Official South Carolina election records show Donald Trump received 158,541 votes there in 2024, compared with Kamala Harris’s 100,074. That gave Trump a countywide advantage of 58,467 votes, helping fuel the broader region’s strong Republican showing.
A separate comparison published by Citimeter also places Greenville-Anderson-Greer third among 100 metropolitan areas based on the 2024 presidential results. For readers who enjoy seeing their hometown near the top of a national list, that offers another reason to smile.
