On Sept. 7, 1774, Delegates from twelve of the original thirteen Colonies met at the first Contintential Congress and asked Rev. Jacob Duché to open the meeting with the reading of Psalm 35.
“Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me; Fight against them who fight against me.  Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help.  Draw out also the spear, And stop the way against them that persecute me.  Say to my soul, ‘I am  thy salvation.’  Let those be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul.  Let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt.  Let them be as chaff before the wind.  And let the angel of the LORD chase them…” ~ Psalm 35:1-5 AKJV

“Contend, LORD, with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take up shield and armor; arise and come to my aid. Brandish spear and javelin against those who pursue me. Say to me, ‘I am your salvation.’ May those who seek my life be disgraced and put to shame; May those who plot my ruin  be turned back in dismay. May they be like chaff before the wind, With the angel of the LORD driving them away;…” ~ Psalm 35:1-5 NIV

I’ve included two versions of Psalm 35:1-5 for the sake of clarification and comparison.  I’m sure that most Christians have read this historic Psalm, but I’m equally sure that some Christians, and fewer still Americans in general, know the significance of that great Psalm of King David in the foundation of our Constitutional Republic.  Many do not realize that this Psalm inspired our nation’s Founders to pursue independence in obedience to God’s Word.  When the Continental Congress met in the Pennsylvania State House in Philadelphia in September of 1774 (now called ‘Independence Hall’, although they actually met in Carpenter’s Hall next door-and I’ve been there), the delegates were under the erroneous assumption that the British military had already bombarded and destroyed the town of Boston.  The Library of Congress has long related the story that the delegates “prayed fervently for America, for Congress…and especially for the town of Boston.”

On September 7, 1774, the attending delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies drew strength from Psalm 35.  They asked Rev. Jacob Duche’ to open the meeting of that First Continental Congress with the reading of Psalm 35 (which was undoubtedly from the Authorized King James Version).  We who live today need to know that when America’s proto-Founders met to begin discussing possible independence from the tyranny of the English king, George 111, they essentially began with a Bible study followed by a lengthy time of prayer.  It’s fortunate that the ACLU (the Anti-Christian Liberties Union), or the totally scurrilous  and far left-wing and virulently anti-Christian Southern Poverty Law Center, or other anti-God and anti-freedom cretins of like mind, weren’t there to harass the delegates with their ridiculous rants of “separation of church and state”.  Had they been on the scene in those days, we might still be singing “God Save the Queen”, the thought of which makes me nauseous.

In a letter that John Adams sent to his wife, Abigail, he described that reading of Psalm 35 before all the delegates, telling her that, “I never saw a greater effect upon an audience.  It seemed as if heaven had ordained that Psalm to be read on that morning.”  It was recorded that when the delegates heard that Psalm they reacted by proclaiming, “God knows what is happening in America.  God knows what is happening with our independence.”

As it was in those long-gone days, so it is today.  Our Heavenly Father knows what is happening regarding our nation’s independence and its future survival, neither of which can be guaranteed at this desperate point in time except as He wills it.  Despite the ceaseless efforts of countless patriots and concerned citizens and Americanist groups over recent decades, too many Americans have little or no understanding of what is being planned for them by the advocates of “The New World Order”, nor do many of them seem concerned about the planned end of the sovereignty of our troubled nation, courtesy of the endless propaganda to that end for over 100 years by the treasonous Council on Foreign Relations and its shadowy sycophants.  Many Americans who are told the truth remain unconvinced or unconcerned, and chalk up the knowledge to “conspiracy theories” before returning to their boob tubes or to their mindless social media.

Give us sports, our people say:  Either in person, or on TV, or virtually enjoyed—meaningless modern “gladiatorial spectacles” engaged in far too often by team owners and team members who despise America, who care only for their self-aggrandizing riches, and who gladly kowtow to a powerful Chinese Communist nation intent on controlling them and all the rest of us.  Give us our “social media”, say Americans who have become addicted to the time wasting trivia that composes much of that media, purposely programmed violence and promiscuity (elements of that social media have already captured the minds and affections of our young people), and that focuses one’s attention mostly on mindless chatter rather than on preserving our freedom (a subject which is now almost totally banned on “our” social media sites).  Don’t bother us with all that political and patriotic nonsense, proclaim some Americans--  young and old—just let us text ourselves into oblivion, and don’t bother us with the increasing possibility that the END of the Constitutional Republic known as the United States as we always knew it, and as our Founders bequeathed it to us, is staring all of us in our faces!

It appears to me that the main problem with Americans who consider ourselves to be Christians is our gullibility—our inability, or our unwillingness—to consider that some who also may call themselves “Christians” could be hiding something from us, something that is harmful to our freedom and to  our nation’s well being, or that—horror of horrors—they might be deliberately lying to us.  The ostensible “leader” of our Federal Oligarchy in The District of Criminals and Corruption, the frail and dementia-plagued Comrade Joe Biden, assures us that he is a “Christian” (with little to no proof of that claim), but all the while he lies to us concerning his and his fellow plotters’ real intensions of not controlling the INVASION of illegal, ignorant, and often disease-carrying aliens into our nation, with the obvious goal of flooding this land with so many probable future Democrat voters (i.e. hordes of new members of The Klan of New Bolsheviks) as to make it virtually impossible for Republicans to ever again win any presidential or congressional seat, for it has long been established fact that once the illegal invaders become “citizens” they will vote 80% FOR Democrats .

The ACLU and the far left-wing SPLC have long taken advantage of this gullibility on the part of far too many Americans and Christians.  We meekly submit to the bullying of those far-leftist organizations with barely a whimper.  How many of us really know that the Founders of the United States—you know, those long-dead, slave-owning, racist white men that the leftist enemies of our constitutional republic have convinced far too many Americans were non-Christian “deists”—actually created our nation based on God’s Word found in Scripture?  An even more pertinent question is:  How many Americans, especially those who call themselves Christians, believe that it is “government” that endows us with “certain unalienable rights”?  I wonder.

Consider this:  IF our rights and liberties come from some government—some king or congress or parliament—then Thomas Jefferson was wrong when he wrote about “unalienable” rights in our Declaration of Independence.  As my hero, the late Rev.  D. James Kennedy wrote many years ago:  “If our rights and liberties do not come from God and are not inalienable, they come from the State, and they are very alienable.  The State gives and the State takes away what it gives….  When you get rid of inalienable rights that come from God, you get very alienable rights that come from a totalitarian State.  When the State is the final authority…that is totalitarianism, that is despotism.”

The very anti-American ACLU and other secular liberal groups and “thinkers” have always insisted that our Founders wanted to create a government free from any religious influence, especially the influence of the Word of God.  They’ve used this “myth” about the Constitutionally NON-EXISTENT “separation of church and state” to virtually destroy the underpinnings of American society in only a few generations, and wimpy, weak-kneed Christians have stood by as this happened, too fearful or too faithless to protest.  Consider, for example, some of the LIES that the enemies of freedom have spread:

LIE #1:  Jefferson’s phrase (from a private letter to a Baptist group) about a “wall of separation” meant freedom from religion.  The well-documented truth is that he meant freedom of religion.

LIE #2:  The First Amendment  keeps religion out of our government.  The truth is that the man who wrote the First Amendment—James Madison—was a strong Christian and always advocated religious influence within government.

LIE #3:  Most of our Founders were non-Christian “deists”.  The truth is that of the 56 who signed the Declaration of Independence, 24 of them had seminary (known today as Bible college) degrees and some were active pastors.  In their own writings, our Bible was the most cited document, for it was their main political inspiration.  Only a mere handful of our Founders might have been “deists” or unbelievers, but most were strong Christians.

Have  you every wondered why the reading of Psalm 35 had such a profound impact on that First Continental Congress in September of 1774?  I’ll tell  you why.  It was because the majority of the delegates there in Philadelphia  were of strong Christian faith.  They were not mealy-mouthed men cringing in the shadows of political correctness, hoping not to be noticed by the king and his cronies.  Less than two years later, these or other delegates boldly proclaimed the immortal words of Puritan Judge John Bradshaw:  RESISTANCE TO TYRANTS IS OBEDIENCE TO GOD”!  (John Bradshaw was the English judge who sentenced King Charles 1 of England to be executed by beheading in 1649.)  And NO—Thomas Jefferson didn’t write those immortal words of truth, but he did proclaim a version of them many times.  Our Founders’ political creed eventually became:  We have no king but King Jesus!  Oh Lord, would that we had many such people in our day.

Tyrants have appeared among us in many forms over the history of mankind, and were eventually, and must always be, RESISTED.  The ACLU and its army of litigators is every bit as tyrannous today as the armies of the English king were in the early 1770’s—perhaps even worse.  The tyranny of “political correctness” and “cancel culture”, which is running amok in our American society and supported from “behind the curtain” by assorted cowards, shadowy mega-wealthy collectivists, our own Department of Justice, and liberal mouth breathers, threatens to overwhelm us  and erode our faith in our God-given liberties and our institutions of freedom.  Political parties, particularly the Klan of New Bolsheviks, and their apparent leaders, have long tyrannized our people by offering an endless variety of big-brother loving, smooth talking panderers of political pap, demagogues who promise to solve our problems and bring about a new “golden age” if only we elect them and give them the power (just like the Marxist/collectivists taking control of “our” federal government today).  Lies!  All lies!  LIES NOW AND FOREVER!

The real pullers of the strings behind the scenes—the mega-wealthy international investors and bankers—the oligarchs of multinational corporations—the treasonous members of the anti-American sovereignty Council on Foreign Relations—the super-secret Trilateralists and Bilderbergers—and others even more hidden—care not which of the pathetic candidates that “we, the people” elect, for their control of money, academia, the media, both political parties, and “our” federal government always remains the same.  As one of this band of world masters admitted long ago:  “Give me control of a nation’s currency and I care not who makes the laws.”

I’ll close with something for  you to think about in relation to our current crop of “leaders”, “ pseudo-presidents”, and “wannabe presidents”.  The quote is from a play by Lord Byron, called “The Two Foscari”, from Act 11, Scene 1:

“Tyranny is far the worst of treasons.  Dost thou deem none rebels except subjects?  The prince who neglects or violates his trust is more a brigand than the robber-chief.”  Were he alive today, Lord Byron would have an endless list of “brigands” to denounce all across our land, starting most definitely with that pseudo-president who is reputed to be living at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. in Washington, D.C.

He is an avid and long-time writer, concentrating on political and cultural issues of concern to America's Christian Patriot community.  He was published in the Lancaster, S.C. "News" during the mid-to-late 1960's, and has been a Local Columnist published in the Greenville, SC The Times Examiner since 1999.  The late and great Christian Patriot, Col. Bobby Dill, was his first Editor. During those years he has had several hundred articles published in The Times Examiner, which he always refers to as "a great journal of truth"!

He has had one book published, a 120-page novel set in our future, titled "The History of Our Future", and two unpublished  750-page sequels "Waiting in the Wings" to be published "someday".  Bill has been married to Barbara for 65 years, has two adult  (and aging) kids,  five grandkids, six great-grandkids, and a "feisty and opinionated" 80 lb. Pit Lab named Hayley, who admittedly runs the entire house.

A very long-time member, with Barbara, of The patriotic John Birch Society, he believes that it is the duty of ALL Christians to also be dedicated patriots and do everything possible to both resist the evil of collectivism that is smothering Western Civilization and to do his best to educate and motivate his fellow Americans in the preservation of our unique Constitutional Republic, and most importantly, to share the love of his Savior with others.
