It was good to see you, Sir—to once again stand in front of your Minuteman Statue on the front edge of the historic Battle Green in Lexington, Massachusetts. It’s one of my very favorite places in the entire world. When I first saw you way back in 1955, I was just beginning to appreciate what you and your friends accomplished there on that early misty morning of April 19, 1775, and later at the North Bridge a few miles away in Concord, two places that have become virtual “Beacons of Liberty” over the decades to people who are dedicated to the proposition that human freedom must never “perish from the earth”.

The Last Doolittle Raider Still Lives!

77 years ago, on Saturday, April 18, 1942 to be exact, on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Hornet (CV 8), eighty young, courageous, and thoroughly trained men got into sixteen new and specially modified B-25B twin-engine bombers, launched themselves from a pitching deck caused by heavy waves in a storm-tossed sea hundreds of miles off the coast of Japan (farther away than they had planned to launch), and flew into the annals of legend.

This Is A Constitutional Republic, Not A Democracy. Let’s Keep It That Way!
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
What has always been (until the 2016 Presidential election) the most prominent characteristic of the Constitutional Republic given to us by our Founders? It has been the more or less peaceful transition of governmental power from one presidential administration to the next—in many cases from one political party to a different one. That was what almost always separated us from the wild and mob dominated “politics” of other countries on this planet.

What In The World Is A “Liberal”?
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
In the Year of our Lord, 2019, the citizens of our American nation find themselves virtually breaking apart over “politics”; more specifically split down the middle between those who call themselves “conservatives”, who honor and respect the “old ways” that were codified by our Founders in our Constitution and transmitted to all of mankind through the centuries by God’s Eternal Word (our Bible), and those who call themselves “modern liberals”, who essentially reject almost everything that conservatives believe in and honor (even though they love to assure us that they respect that heritage as much as all the rest of us do---tip: THEY DON’T!).

Is The U.S. a Republic, a Democracy, or “Something Else”?
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
Last time we discussed the political spectrum, i.e. what forms of political organization were on the left, center, and right of that imaginary line. We concluded that the U.S., as officially a Constitutional Republic, was about in the middle of that spectrum. Most unbiased and honest political analysts and historians would more or less agree with that placement. But are we truly a “middle-of-the-road” country? Increasingly, I’m confused as to where the government of our country really fits, and I don’t think that I’m alone in my quandary.

Who’s Who On The Political Spectrum
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
Confusion reigns supreme in the puzzling and sometimes rancorous discussions of who or what is a “right winger” and a “left winger” in the realm of modern and often rancorous and deliberately misleading American political debate. Most of us have been programmed for decades by the liberal “main stream” (left wing) media (most newspapers, all TV network news, talking “heads” on most cable news shows, etc.) to accept their incorrect descriptions that communists and socialists are “left wing”, and fascists and Nazis and white supremacists are “right wing”. Americans are often dismayed when they discover that what they’ve been told is truth by those they trusted is a deliberate semantic deception, and an outright LIE!

Freedom Isn’t Free. It Never Has Been!

I’ve been blessed to have a long time friend and fraternity brother who, with his wife, sends me some interesting articles via e-mail from time to time. Over the years I’ve used some of these articles as the basis for extended comments of my own here in The Times Examiner. This is another of those shared articles that I’ve used to delve into the subject of the cost of maintaining our freedoms—the liberties for which untold numbers of Americans have given their “last full measure of devotion” to defend. Their e-mail contained a poem written in 1981 by Kelly Strong that I’d like to share with you:

Perfidy Is Still In Fashion
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
Perfidy is a word that isn’t in the regular vocabulary of many people. I came across the word many years ago, the context of which now eludes me (probably when reading about some sleazy progressive politician), but it was sometime in the last century (or the “dark ages” as my grandkids like to remind me). Let’s first define the word perfidy, which comes from the Latin, “perfidia”, meaning faithlessness. The dictionaries define it as follows:
Oxford: (noun): deceitfulness, untrustworthiness;
Webster: (noun): the quality or state of being faithless or disloyal; An act or an instance of disloyalty or faithlessness or treachery.
Other definitions for “perfidy” imply a deliberate breach of faith or trust.

Father, Forgive Them, For They Do Know What They Do!

“And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary (the skull), there they crucified Him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. Then said Jesus, ‘Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do….” - Luke 23:33-34
I heard my mother talking with someone she called “doctor”. Their words were muffled and difficult to understand in my condition. I heard my mother asking her “doctor” if I would feel any pain. I heard him reply that he really didn’t know with certainty if I would feel pain or not, since he was unaware of any scientific evidence one way or the other, but that he was sure that I wouldn’t. I heard my mother ask her “doctor” whether or not he ever thought about whether people in my condition felt pain when he did the “medical procedure” on them—the same one he was about to do on me.

Are Firearms Really “Evil?”
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
On the night of October 1, 2017, a mass shooting occurred in Las Vegas, Nevada. An evil man opened gunfire on a crowd of concertgoers from the 32nd floor of the hotel in which he was staying, killing 58 innocents and wounding hundreds of others with his gunfire, in addition to causing the injury of hundreds more in the ensuing panic. So far the Las Vegas Police and the F.B. LIE have failed to come up with (or at least tell us about) the reason/s that this vermin had in his diseased mind to justify committing “the worst mass murder in U.S. history”.

Perseverance Is Good For US
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
We all claim to admire people who persevere despite handicaps, hardships, family, health or financial difficulties, etc., until they reach their goal. Let’s define “Perseverance”. According to Webster’s dictionary, it is defined as: “continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failures, or oppositions.” That definition is pretty straightforward, and most of us can agree with it. However, there is much “blood, sweat, and tears” between the dictionary definition and the actual following through to the end goal of one’s perseverance. The key word of the definition is: ‘CONTINUED’, often for years!

Does America Need a Collegial Nice Guy, or a Hard Nosed Leader?
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
For about two years, our “ship of State”, the U.S.S. American Nation, has been captained by President Donald Trump. During this two year “voyage” our nation has seen what many of its “passengers” perceive to be major improvements in real wages, in jobs, and in reduced levels of federal “rules and regulations” that were strangling our economy under our previous “pseudo-Captain”. We’ve seen confidence among our people increase as patriotism has increased under our Republican, populist, and nominally conservative President Trump. We’ve seen our stalwart ‘captain’ try hard to “Make America Great Again” by strengthening our military, revising various trade treaties with other nations (a few of which are actually friends with us), and cajoling our sometimes reluctant “allies” to shoulder their fair share of the burdens of protecting and maintaining freedom in a threatening world composed of governments that don’t view freedom in the same light as do Americans.

If “The Past is Prologue,” What Is The Present?
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
First off, let’s define the word: “prologue”. Webster’s defines it as ‘an introductory or preceding event or development’. In a literary work it is often called a ‘preface’, a commentary or explanation that the author includes to clarify the story or the facts that are to follow. The term, ‘the past is prologue’, tells us that, in real life, almost EVERYTHING can be a prologue—or a causative event-- to what follows it. Thus, my responding to my “four-legged alarm clock” at 6:30 a.m., and dragging myself out of bed this morning, was my ‘prologue’ to going to work and serving my customers. That’s a fairly easy concept to grasp. What is more complicated to fathom is how the past of each one of us—I mean the really “long, long ago past”—has affected who we are, into what family we were born, and even in what country we originated. Now that’s kind of deep, isn’t it? In addition, it’s quite fascinating to “conjecture” various “present scenarios” resulting from a series of “past prologues” that might have occurred, but didn’t.

Fathers and Sons – A Lesson
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
A long time ago—in August of 1955 to be exact—I survived my fraternity’s “Hell Week” initiation at the university I attended. Oh, what stories I could tell of that sleep-deprived and harrowing week, and of the month or two period of “pledging” that preceded it. But I won’t bore you with my youthful adventures. I’ve stayed close to one of my fraternity brothers from that pledge “class”, and periodically he or his wife send me interesting articles gleaned from the internet. I’ve shared some of them with you, my readers, in both the now extinct print version of The Times Examiner, and also now in the new digital format. This time they sent me what may be one of the most intense and moving lessons I’ve ever read. Perhaps you’ll feel the same way as I share it with you.

God’s Ways or Man’s Ways? The “Tablecloth’s” Story

Well, just who does decide the fate of the universe, the locations of the stars, the courses of the seasons, the history and direction of mankind, the countries men and women inhabit, and the final destination of the lives of each and every one of us? Who decides? Who directs? Who, if anyone, is really in control?

For Unto Us A Child Was Born
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
In a few days most of the Christian world will celebrate the birth of the Savior of Mankind, Jesus The Messiah, the Christ long prophesied and awaited by the Jews of old, and rejoiced over by all who are “called by His Name”, i.e. “Christians”. Jews have long denounced Him as a deluded blasphemer at worst, and a “fraud” at best, and are still awaiting their “messiah”. Christians over all the ages have celebrated His Coming as the fulfillment of prophesy, particularly that of Isaiah 53, written at least seven centuries before our Savior appeared among men.
