In science when a theory is close to the data it is often possible to modify it so that it better fits the data. However, there is a danger in doing this and that is modifying the theory to the point where it is no longer falsifiable. When this happens, the theory ceases to actually be science and can easily become dogma, being pushed as science.
As long as the modifications are small adjustments that maintain the theory’s testability it is not a problem. However, the danger comes when the new elements make no real predictions but simply exist to patch the current theory. When this is done a theory or group of theories can easily become dogma rather than science because they lose all falsifiability.
This most frequently happens when the modifications that are made to a theory are untestable patches rather than testable adjustments. Such untestable patches are frequent in the Big Bang to man evolutionary story. You often see them when you hear about a surprise discovery followed by an untestable patch.
Within the Big Bang there are three main examples of this type of patching. The first is cosmic inflation which was invented to explain some problems with the Big Bang but is completely untestable because it would be beyond observation. A second is known as dark matter, it exists to explain why galaxies don't fly apart on the timescales required by the Big Bang. It too by its very nature is unfalsifiable. Dark energy was invented to explain type 1A supernova data that the Big Bang interprets as an accelerating expansion, it too is unfalsifiable.
Ultimately the problem with the entire Big Bang to man evolutionary atheistic mythology is the fact that it has become dogma within the established scientific community. This is because ultimately the only alternative is in the beginning God. Consequently, the theories in this entire story line get patched every time they do not fit reality, and they have been patched to the point where they are no longer even remotely falsifiable.
