Chip Howard, manager and senior funeral director at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Greenville, South Carolina, addressed American Legion Post 3 during the August regular meeting.

Howard discussed the eligibility requirements for burial in a VA National Cemetery and the fact that space may not be reserved ahead of time. He presented excerpts from the Dignity Memorial Veterans Planning Guide used by Woodlawn, including the “truth about veteran’s funeral benefits.”

The Veterans Planning Guide can be a valuable tool for planning ahead for the funeral of a veteran and can be obtained at Woodlawn Funeral Home only by appointment.

Burial in a VA National Cemetery includes an assigned gravesite (if space is available). Opening and closing of the grave, a grave liner, government headstone or marker, and perpetual care are also included.

Headstones or Markers for burial in a private cemetery must be requested.

Chip Howard and his staff at Woodlawn Funeral Home “strongly encourage all veterans to take advantage of the unique benefits and extraordinary savings offered by the Member Benefits Program of Woodlawn Funeral Home, the local Dignity Memorial, Funeral, Cremation and Cemetery provider.”

Howard presented Post 3 Commander John Collins a copy of the book, The Wall, to place in the post’s War Museum.
