18-year-old from Cleveland, South Carolina, tops IPRA and PBR leaderboards in historic 2026 season

Champion Elijah Jennings won his first career PBR Event

Elijah Jennings, an 18-year-old rider from Cleveland, South Carolina, has emerged as one of the most promising young bull riders in the sport this season. Jennings captured a world championship title with the International Professional Rodeo Association at the 56th International Finals Rodeo in January and followed it up with his first career victory in the toughest professional development tour in bull riding — the Professional Bull Riders Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour.

IPRA World Championship Glory

At the IPRA’s International Finals Rodeo — the season-ending championship — Jennings delivered consistent performances across multiple rounds to secure the aggregate title in bull riding. The event brought together top competitors from across the country in several rodeo disciplines, and Jennings’ scoring rides earned him one of the sport’s most respected seasonal championships.

Social media posts from IPRA affiliates highlighted Jennings’ ride on Night Two, where he posted the highest-marked ride of that performance with an 83.25-point effort, putting him in command heading into the final rounds.

Historic Win on the PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour

Just days after his world title in rodeo, Jennings transitioned into the professional bull riding tour circuit with a breakthrough victory at the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour stop in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Riding in the Cooper Tires PBR Grand Rapids event at Van Andel Arena, he claimed the event buckle with a total of 173.40 points across three rounds. Jennings rode Ferracci for 85.80 points and then posted an 87.60-point ride aboard Catching Gears in the Championship Round to secure the top spot on the leaderboard.

The win marked his first event victory in the Velocity Tour — the competitive tier just below PBR’s elite Unleash The Beast series — and instantly elevated his profile in the sport’s mainstream professional ladder. Jennings’ performance thrust him into the top tier of young riders battling for overall standings and points on the 2026 circuit.

Rapid Rise Through the Standings

Jennings’ Grand Rapids victory propelled him into seventh place in the Velocity Tour standings, a significant jump for a teenager still early in his career. A follow-up win at PBR Hampton just weeks later elevated him even further up the leaderboard — demonstrating consistency and competitiveness beyond his age.

The Hampton win underscored his growing momentum: he was the only rider to stay aboard two bulls over the weekend, posting a weekend-high 87.1-point ride on Poseidon that helped secure the event title and moves him into contention near the top of the global standings.

A Season That Signals a New Generation

Jennings’ dual success — earning a world title with the IPRA and then turning heads on the PBR tour — highlights a rare blend of experience and youthful fearlessness. Achieving these milestones at 18 places him among a new wave of riders who are increasingly competitive on circuits that span the United States.

For a sport long dominated by riders from traditional rodeo states, Jennings’ rise deepens the representation of riders outside the western region and gives Upstate South Carolina a significant presence on rodeo and rodeo-adjacent professional stages.

What Happens Next

Jennings is expected to continue chasing points on the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour, aiming for qualification to higher-profile events and possibly the PBR World Finals later this year. His performances will be closely watched as he battles for status among the sport’s elite and works to maintain momentum from this breakthrough season.
