And thus we lose another arrow in the Conservative quiver. As a Senator, DeMint had the power to offset or at least defend our principles against the likes of Harry Reid and Schumer.
As President of the Heritage Foundation, and I do not deny the importance of Heritage, he will join the chorus of organizations who have a voice but no vote; who can hold conferences of believers while not converting non-believers; who can print impressive brochures which are then distributed to an adoring choir; and who continue to wallow in the partisan swill inside the Beltway while achieving little.
I spent a nine years with a public policy think tank in D.C. I loved what I did and believed in the causes we espoused. Sadly, after years of publishing, reading, and believing our own press releases, I realized that we were having little or no true impact. We raised a lot of money, spent a lot of money and based upon feedback from our own constituents, mistakenly imagined that our viewpoint was shared by the masses.
The braggarts and blowhards who populate our political system and conservative media these days seem to have little connection with the people in “flyover” America and how they feel. The core traditional values of America may still exist but the electorate has changed dramatically. Nobody seems to have the guts to brand Obama and his administration for what they really are. Our side continues to try and impute good intentions to Obama and his regime. He has none.
Let’s be clear. Obama is not a failure. He has been extraordinarily successful at fulfilling his anti-American agenda. He is intent on accomplishing that which Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Khrushchev, Hitler, and Hirohito failed to accomplish but vowed to achieve. The Russians ultimately said America would collapse from within. The path to the predicted downfall of America has led through Wilson, Roosevelt, Johnson, Obama and their Democrat, Liberal, Progressive, Socialist, and, in the end, Marxist policies. Obama’s legacy will be putting the Capstone on the process. His goal is to drive us into such a crisis – “Don’t let a good crisis go to waste” – that ultimately the people will throw up their hands and beg for an all encompassing government to be our Savior. Nothing but tyranny can result. It is clear that Communist ideologies have driven current terminologies i.e. the transition from liberal to progressive to Forward. Aahhh!! At last the proletariat will rise up and throw off the chains placed upon them by the bourgeoisie
I’ve read seventeen publications including the Communist Manifesto, The Naked Communist, the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, Ameritopia, the Federalist Papers and many others. As a West Point graduate, a former Army Ranger and Green Beret, a decorated Vietnam veteran, and a born again Christian, I vowed to defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. I have concluded that our greatest enemy is a domestic one - our own government. It is incomprehensible that we have allowed our self-serving politicians to bring this country to the point where the slippery slope ended and we fell off the cliff on November 6th.
It seems that few, if any, of our political leaders understand the fundamentals upon which this country was founded. It is apparent that the electorate is ignorant of the truths that underlie our freedoms as well. The Greatest Generation is dying off rapidly and my generation is fading fast. Those who are products of the drug soaked sixties are now leading but they are retiring. The following generations have been indoctrinated by a leftist dominated education system and are woefully ignorant. In a few years, the populace will be devoid of anyone who recalls how our nation was founded, why it has been the most successful nation in history and a beacon of freedom to the world.
Obama’s pledge to fundamentally change America has come true. We have become a nation of entitlement. It has been written that a democracy can only survive until its people learn they can vote themselves largess from the public treasury. Sadly, we are there in spades.
Obama has become president again but it is we who failed to stop him. “The Harbinger” by Jonathan Cahn and "The Islamic Anti-Christ” by Joel Richardson make excellent and informative reading. Few in Congress seem to read anything but their politically biased talking points. Few of them care about the country – their goal is to win the next election by buying votes through government give-away programs.
I fear the Republicrat Party is finished and I know not from where a replacement will arise. A careful reading of the Declaration of Independence leaves one with the impression that revolution or the returning of the Lord may be the only solutions. The ballot box has certainly failed us.
Years ago a senior staff member of a leading Congressman told me that the Christian Coalition was having minimal effect on Capital Hill. When I asked why, the response was that Christians don’t vote, they don’t contribute, and don’t remember. Irrespective of what the Congressman, does, incumbency rules. Sad, very sad.
Jim DeMint is a man of courage and conviction. It remains to be seen if his influence can convert anyone of the leftist mentality to our side of the table or will he be just another highly paid big name preaching to the choir. South Carolina will miss him.
