Henry Timrod 654 Children of the Confederacy proudly announce the Rechartering of Henry Timrod 654, Spartanburg, SC! We are excited to honor our ancestors through the Children of the Confederacy®!
Our namesake, Henry Timrod, was known as the Poet Laureate of the Confederacy. Timrod was born in Charleston, SC in 1829. He wrote patriotic lyrics that inspired the Southern people. He served in a volunteer Regiment and War Correspondent during the War Between the States. In 1864, he became the Editor of The South Carolinian. He is buried in Trinity Church graveyard in Columbia, SC.
