The Dark Cloud of Project Ukraine
The Cuban Missile Crisis from October 16 to October 28, 1962, was a major confrontation between the United States and the Soviet Union, when American deployments of nuclear missiles in Turkey and Italy were matched by an attempted Soviet deployment of nuclear missiles in Cuba. The confrontation is widely considered the closest the Cold War ever came to escalating into a full-scale nuclear war. On October 21, President John Kennedy decided on a blockade of Cuba rather than a direct air attack on the missiles. The situation was resolved on October 28, when President Kennedy made a secret agreement with Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev to remove American missiles from Turkey and Italy in exchange for Russian removal of missiles and other weapons from Cuba. This secret agreement was not revealed until January 1989. The American media story for over a quarter century was that JFK had backed down the Russians. The narrow avoidance of nuclear war changed both Kennedy and Khrushchev, moving them both closer to peaceful coexistence rather than aggressive hegemonic competition.

Will America Be a Light to the World or a Byword for Ungodly Folly?
On March 21, 1630, at Holyrood Church in Southampton, England, Puritan leader and later Governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, John Winthrop, gave a warning sermon to his fellow Puritans about to depart to Boston on the Arabela. Near the end of his sermon, he used the example of a “City on a Hill,” referring to Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world, a city built on a hill cannot be hidden.” Winthrop was not an ordained minister; he was a lawyer, and his sermon was organized with a train of logic typical of English lawyers. But this train of logic was based on the solid truths of Scripture. His principal theme was love and the duty of godly love for one another with a pure heart and selfless fervor. In fact, his sermon was entitled, A Model of Christian Charity [Love], and his hope was that the Puritan community in Boston would become a model of Christian love, being a light and example to the world. Few if any in this party of persecuted Puritans had any ambition for New England or the American Colonies to become a great, wealthy, or politically or militarily powerful nation. Their hope was simply to live in peace and brotherly love and by their example become a beacon of divine truth and unselfish charity to the nations and their own posterity.

Arrogant Totalitarian Power Championed by Complicit Mainstream Media
The outrageous Soviet-style trial of former President Donald Trump may mark the darkest days of American history. It is a totalitarian and immediate existential threat to American freedom and justice. It was a temporary triumph of big lies, utter dishonesty, and a complete distortion and violation of almost every principle of American justice and the rules of evidence. It is an arrogant insult to all who have cherished, worked for, and fought to preserve the integrity, justice, freedom, and common-sense fairness of American government serving the common good of the American people. Many have sacrificed their lives and fortunes in preserving this heritage. Yet all this may be undone and lost if the American people and their Representatives tolerate the monstruous villainy of the Manhattan District Court and Prosecutor or their like anywhere in the United States. The American people must also turn to better guides to truth than have been demonstrated by the cowardly and complicit mainstream media.

Ominous Events in Slovakia, Georgia, and Serbia
On Wednesday, May 15, Robert Fico, the populist Prime Minister of Slovakia, was shot twice in the abdomen in an attempted assassination just after 2:00 PM local time after a government meeting in the town of Handiova (population 16,000). He was immediately hospitalized and required nearly four hours of surgery, but is currently reported to be in stable but still serious condition. In 2023, Fico was elected to his fourth term as Prime Minister as head of the Smer (Social Democrat) Party after Parliamentary elections. Slovakia is a member of NATO and the European Union, but Fico has advocated a “Euroskeptic” platform for ending military aid to Ukraine and establishing friendlier relations with the Russian Federation. He has publicly criticized NATO and US policies on the Ukraine War. He is in general concert with Slovakian public opinion. In April, Fico had also been critical of the “progressive” media, related to the liberal Progressive Party and had accused them of stirring up aggressive political behavior and a degree of hostility to the present government that could lead to murder of government officials.

Causes, Purposes, Propaganda, Misinformation, and Reality
Most Americans, Canadians, and Western Europeans are poorly informed or have been deliberately misinformed on what is going on in “Project Ukraine.” This has been true for the entire conflict going back not only to February 2022 but to its real beginning in February 2014 with the Maidan Revolution and US-backed coup d’état that removed elected Ukrainian pro-neutrality President Viktor Yanukovych and replaced him with a series of pro-NATO prime ministers and presidents.
Mike Scruggs is the author of two books: The Un-Civil War: Shattering the Historical Myths; and Lessons from the Vietnam War: Truths the Media Never Told You, and over 600 articles on military history, national security, intelligent design, genealogical genetics, immigration, current political affairs, Islam, and the Middle East.
