Greenville Water Chief Operating Officer Jeff Phillips was appointed to the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) National Drinking Water Advisory Council (NDWAC). The NDWAC provides EPA with advice and recommendations related to the national drinking water program, engaging on key issues to gain broad input regarding the delivery of safe drinking water to the nation's consumers.
Phillips is one of 15 council members who include individuals from the general public, state and local agencies and private groups that are concerned with safe drinking water and public health. The council also has technical advisors. He will serve a two-year term on the Council.
His appointment is based upon his experience as well as his outstanding reputation both inside and outside Greenville Water. Jeff holds a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry from Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania, as well as water distribution and water treatment licenses. He has 34 years of experience in the water industry and is an active member of statewide industry organizations such as the Water Environment Association of South Carolina (WEASC) and the South Carolina section of the American Water Works Association (SCAWWA) where he was a past president.
A key contributor to the success of Greenville Water, Phillips served as the first superintendent of the Stovall Water Treatment Plant for ten years. Since that time, he has worked at two other regional water systems before returning to Greenville Water in 2018.
A Greenville resident for 27 years, Phillips has been married to his wife, Lisa, for 31 years and has two grown children. In his spare time, he enjoys weather forecasting.
