If Property Owners Disagree with Assessment Notice, They Have 90 Days to File Written Appeal

Greenville County mailed out property tax reassessments last week and council members have been inundated with calls from property owners with questions. The purpose of the workshop is for the county assessor to brief the council members on the legal requirements and methods used to determine the new values.

A common question from property owners is: “How can my property increase in value when the value of property is going down and I can’t find a buyer?”

Current South Carolina law requires reassessment of property values for tax purposes each five years.

The assessment may be appealed however there is no guarantee that an adjustment in the assessment value will be changed. If a property owner disagrees with any information on the assessment notice, they may file a written notice with the assessor within 90 days of the date of the notice or before.

The workshop will be held at noon on Friday, October 8th in Conference Room D at Greenville County Square and is open to the public.
