JudgeDebraFaulkner-1Greenville County Probate Judge Debora Faulkner was featured speaker at the Woodlawn Memorial Park and Funeral Home Salute to Veterans, Sunday, November 9, 2014.

Judge Faulkner’s father was a decorated combat veteran of World War II, and she and her office have been very helpful assisting veterans with certain disabilities obtain proper care.

Judge Faulkner has served as Probate Judge for Greenville County for sixteen years and was just elected to another four-year term.

She is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the University of South Carolina and the USC School of Law. She has been a member in good standing of the South Carolina and Greenville County Bar since 1982 and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and Federal District Court. She has served in many leadership roles, including president of the S. C. Association of Probate Judges. Under her leadership, the Probate Courts of South Carolina have implemented Mediation as an alternative to trials.

Judge Faulkner currently serves as chair of the S. C. Probate Judges’ Committee on Alternative Dispute Resolution and as the S. C. State representative to the National College of Probate Judges.

The Greenville County Probate website has been judged to be one of the top ten best Probate Websites in the nation.

Judge Faulkner discussed the critical importance of honorable military service to the survival of our nation as well as the origin and history of Veterans Day.

She noted that this is the 60th anniversary of Veterans Day established by President Eisenhower in a Proclamation. The date had previously been known as Armiste Day, established by President Woodrow Wilson to mark the end of World War I.

JROTC cadets from J.L. Mann and Southside High Schools participated in the posting of colors. Pat Ramsey, representing Vietnam Veterans of America presented the POW/MIA Flag. JROTC Cadet Hailey Brummett presented a rifle twirling demonstration.

Major Joseph Windley, US Air Force (Ret), gave the Invocation. Andrew Cone, Gen. Manager of  Woodlawn Memorial Park, led the Pledge to the Flag and Jim Yow of Woodlawn Funeral Home welcomed guests.

Sandy Anderson was vocalist, James Cantrell bugler and Kenneth McCallum bagpiper.
