Duncan Bill Defunds Localities that Allow Noncitizen Voting
- By Press Release
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) introduced new legislation to protect the integrity of American elections nationwide by eliminating federal funding for any municipality that allows noncitizens to vote in local or statewide elections:
“Being an American citizen comes with great benefits and responsibilities, which includes voting in elections. The dangerous initiatives that have been popping up across the country that grant voting rights to illegal immigrants and noncitizens are very concerning. Allowing noncitizens to vote undermines the rights of American citizens and puts our democracy at risk. Municipalities that allow noncitizens to vote in their elections are more likely to adopt the types of radical sanctuary city policies that promote illegal activity, undermine law enforcement, and suppress the concerns of citizen voters.

South Carolina Plan to Ensure Only Constitutionally Qualified Candidates Placed on South Carolina Presidential Ballots
- By Christina Jeffrey, Ph.D.
Introduction
Jan. 14, 2016, during a Republican Presidential Primary debate in Charleston, SC, Donald Trump discussed the danger were someone without the requisite qualifications to be President were nevertheless nominated. He warned that the Democrats were poised to bring a suit against any Republican who was not a natural born citizen. This kind of danger and the ensuing chaos can be avoided in 2020 and years to come by passing a bill to require all candidates seeking ballot access in South Carolina, to be fully, constitutionally eligible for the Presidency. This means, per Article II, section 1, clause 5, of the Constitution, that they be natural born citizens, at least 35 years of age and 14 years a resident of the United States.

Ex-top S.C. DOT official gets consulting job with controversial Infrastructure Bank
- By Rick Brundrett - The Nerve
A former top S.C. DOT official and defendant in several employment lawsuits is now working as a private consultant to the State Transportation Infrastructure Bank, which has financed large construction projects that critics contend were chosen primarily for political reasons.
Ronald Patton, an ex-Department of Transportation deputy secretary, told The Nerve he began working for STV Inc., a national transportation consulting company with three offices in South Carolina, a month after his June 2017 retirement from DOT. His annual salary when he left was $137,647.
Patton was DOT’s “liaison” to the Infrastructure Bank (STIB). His new consulting position essentially serves the same purpose as his former role, based on his statements to The Nerve and at a STIB board meeting last month, and the current contract between the STIB and STV.
