The Roman historian Suetonius described Julius Caesar as timid and noncommittal as he initially approached the Rubicon River -- a shallow and narrow waterway that, at the time, demarcated the boundary between Cisalpine Gaul and Italy proper -- in January 49 B.C.E. In fact, the historian ultimately attributed Caesar's decision to cross the waterway, precipitating a four-year civil war and ultimate Caesarian dictatorship, to the supernatural. Prior to crossing, again according to Suetonius, Caesar uttered the now-infamous phrase: "The die has been cast."

With the uptick in gun violence across America, and the tragic shooting in Nashville that took the lives of adults and children, it seems out of place and almost unhinged to make an argument for no gun control.
However, if we are to remain a free people and retain our liberties, as well as protect ourselves and others, the discussion must be put on the table.
No discussion of gun control, or the lack thereof, can begin without an understanding of what the Second Amendment means; viz., what was its original intention, and how is it applied today.
First off, here is the text of the amendment itself:
A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The Basis For the 4.5 billion Year Figure for the Age of the Earth

You have probably heard the claim that the earth has been scientifically demonstrated to be 4.5 billion years old. What is often not included in that reference is what that figure is based on. After all the earth does not come with a tag saying made by natural processes 4.5 billion BC. It turns out that the theory behind it is not only completely naturalistic, but it is based on a theory of geology that excludes the Genesis Flood and Biblical Creation. It is based on a very specific model of how the earth came into existence and if that model is wrong, which is the case if the Bible is true, then so is this date. in fact, the original paper sort of admits to it.

A policy question these days that has befuddled federal lawmakers is why so many millions of people have not returned to the workplace in the post-COVID-19 era. The labor force participation rate among employable adults is near a record low today. There are at least 2 million to 4 million employable adults who could and should be working but aren't.
Very few people with even minimal skills can credibly say they can't find a job. Employers report some 10 million job openings. Small business owners say their biggest problem is finding competent workers.
There are many explanations for why so many people aren't working -- fear of COVID-19, the skills mismatch, more people taking early retirement, and so on. But a major factor is that the federal government is back to doing what it did in the 1970s and 1980s. The welfare state today is paying people not to work -- even a single hour.

This Thursday, following weeks of rumors swirling about a potential indictment by a New York grand jury, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg led the indictment of former U.S. President Donald Trump. The indictment centers on more than 30 counts related to business fraud over alleged hush money paid to a pornography actress known as Stormy Daniels with the intentions of hiding a prior affair while he campaigned president in 2016.

PERFIDY Is All Around Us!

Perfidy is a word that isn’t in the regular vocabulary of many people. I came across the word many years ago, the context of which now eludes me (probably when reading about some sleazy progressive politician), but it was sometime in the last century (or the “dark ages” as my grandkids like to remind me). Let’s first define the word perfidy, which comes from the Latin, “perfidia”, meaning faithlessness. The dictionaries define it as follows:
Oxford: (noun): deceitfulness, untrustworthiness;
Webster: (noun): the quality or state of being faithless or disloyal; An act or an instance of disloyalty or faithlessness or treachery.
Other definitions for “perfidy” imply a deliberate breach of faith or trust.

First Quarter in the 2023 Multiverse

I am always excited about the first quarter of every new year. Yet annually, while as human beings we begin each year with new hopes and dreams, it is often hard to move ahead with unfinished business yapping at our heels.
In my 2023 "multiverse" I continue to pray for victory, faith over fear, love and forgiveness in every aspect of life; from the womb to the tomb and beyond. Today is March 31, 2023; the last day of the year's first quarter. So much has happened already.
January gave us the first March for Life following the overturning of Roe v Wade. Grateful. We also honored the MLK National Holiday; looking forward to the 50th Jubilee Anniversary of the MLK I HAVE A DREAM speech.

I lost a great deal of respect for James M. McPherson who once tried to get President Obama not to send the traditional annual wreath to the Confederate Reconciliation Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery. It is hard to believe somebody of his supposed stature would actually be so small.
It is also hard to believe he would mislead with his history by leaving out key facts, at times, but historian Rod O'Barr, below, documents it thoroughly. McPherson's social justice activism apparently defines his historical judgment.

Library Board Gets Half a Loaf

A standing-room only crowd attended the monthly meeting of the Greenville County Library Board this past Monday afternoon to see what would happen to certain materials deemed sexually objectionable that were accessible to minors.
Earlier in the month, the library board's materials committee put forward two motions dealing with these materials. The first motion called for the removal of the following materials from the Juvenile Collection:
- “Explicit descriptions or depictions of sexual acts including vaginal, anal, oral masturbation, incest or pedophilia
- Descriptions or depictions that affirm gender transition ideology.”
The second motion called for the removal of the following materials from the Young Adult Collection:
