Bob Jones University Hosts Third Annual Human Genetics Symposium

Bob Jones University and the Greenwood Genetic Center will host a human genetics symposium Friday, March 29, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Levinson Hall on the BJU campus. The symposium will focus on autism spectrum disorders in young children.
The program, titled “Pediatric Aspects in Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD),” will include experts from a variety of fields. Attendees will learn how to identify and diagnose the general traits of ASD particularly in infants and toddlers and available personalized treatments.
North Greenville University Announces Reorganization of College of Education

North Greenville University’s Office of Academic Affairs announces the reorganization of the university’s College of Education effective June 1, 2019. NGU Provost and Dean of the University Faculty Dr. Nathan A. Finn, says the College will now house all education programs, including traditional undergraduate, online undergraduate, and graduate programs.
Washington Center Pen Pals with Gator Basketball Teamplayer

Washington Center was a part of the SEC Playmakers Pals program and was paired with the University of Florida women’s’ basketball team. Ms. Amy Garbe’s class became pen-pals with Corey Staples, a junior guard for the Gators. The students helped to make cards and crafts to send to Corey. The students also followed the Gators basketball season; they incorporated math skills with counting points scored and comparing final scores to determine the winner of each game. They also used map skills to find where the Gators were playing and where their opponents where from. All of the students enjoyed learning more about basketball and cheering on the Florida Gators and their pen-pal, Corey. Go Gators!
Well-Known Artist and Performer Visits Washington Center

On Friday, March 8th, Washington Center students and staff were privileged to host well-known Greenville artist and performer, Mr. Emile Pandolfi, for a concert. Everyone seemed to enjoy the "fast and fun" extras that Mr. Pandolfi added to his creative piano pieces. Musical selections included a variety of enjoyable genres from ragtime and pop to Broadway favorites. With the addition of handmade stars and colored scarves to wave, students made their own contributions to the concert. Dr. Penny Rogers, principal of Washington Center, said about the program, “I have never seen our students so attentive!” A special “thank you” goes to Mr. Pandolfi for his kindness and for sharing his beautiful music.

During a recent hearing on H. 3759, which passed, SC Representative Shannon Erickson talked heavily about tracking ALL children, including private and homeschoolers, from birth.
Now, after much backlash, and in an attempt to save face, SC Republican Rep. Shannon Erickson has claimed her comments were taken out of context. So in order to give you more context, we have added more of her speech for you to discern her intent for tracking children from birth in all educational environments including home school. Just watch this clip of Rep. Erickson saying it’s the legislature’s responsibility to monitor and measure child progress.
North Greenville University to Host A Hero’s 5K March 23

Tigerville, SC - North Greenville University will host A Hero’s 5K walk/run on Saturday, March 23 on its Tigerville Campus. A Hero’s 5K was founded in 2010 and is a 5K walk/run held annually in March to remember all of the soldiers who fought, died, and lived for our great country.
BJA Middle School Robotics Team Places First at Palmetto State VEX Robotics Competition

Bob Jones Academy’s Middle School robotics teams, Light Brigade and Alpha and Omega, placed 1st and 14th respectively out of 49 teams at the end of the qualifying rounds at the Palmetto State VEX Robotics Competition held Saturday, Mar. 2, at Dutch Fork Elementary School in Irmo, South Carolina. Both teams entered the elimination rounds with the Light Brigade continuing on to win the state championship.
