Failing To Fix What's Broken Would Be the Real Nightmare

President Joe Biden tweeted last week that he will be a "nightmare" for Republicans who dream of cutting Social Security and Medicare. With this statement, Biden showed that he's either shockingly ignorant about these two programs and any Republican reform efforts -- or lack thereof -- or just another politician who washes his hands of what happens when he's out of office and the programs hit upcoming obstacles.
I have an idea which one it is. However, before revealing my guess, it's worth revisiting the issue more fully. Each time I write about Social Security and Medicare, newspapers receive letters to the editors revealing how little the general public understands about entitlement spending and where it's headed. This misunderstanding is particularly acute and ominous when it comes to Social Security.

According to the Bible, all human beings that have ever lived are descended from one man and one woman. According to universal common descent evolution, this should not be the case. In fact, our species should have evolved with a population of at least a million or so. To the surprise of everyone but Biblical creationists genetic evidence has not only shown that the entire human race is indeed descended from a single woman, but directly measured mutation rates show that she lived about 6,000 years ago. Now of course evolutionists deny the timeline, and they deny that she was the only woman alive, but they are forced to acknowledge her existence even if they push her back more than 100,000 years.

America’s Nordstream Pipeline Sabotage Scandal

On September 26, 2022, the Swedish National Seismic Institute recorded several explosions along the Nordstream 1 and 2 Pipelines southeast of the Danish Island Bornholm in the Baltic Sea. These explosions were approximately the magnitude of a thousand-pound bomb or torpedo and rendered three of the four 4-foot diameter natural gas pipelines inoperable for the foreseeable future. Nordstream 1 and 2 are each double pipelines stretching 759 and 767 miles from two Russian locations on the Gulf of Finland to northeastern Germany. Nordstream 1 had been pumping gas since 2011 and Nordstream 2 had just become operational but was not yet pumping gas. Nordstream 2 parallels Nordstream 1 to its south with a separation of less than one mile. The Baltic Sea depth on their track south of Bornholm is about 265 feet. Nordstream 1 was already supplying 40 percent of Germany’s natural gas. The total cost of the pipelines was $25.4 billion, of which the Russian energy company Gazprom owned 51 percent or $13 billion in cost. German, Austrian, Swiss, Dutch, and British energy companies owned the other 49 percent, of which the heaviest share belonged to Germany.

Far be it for me to quote, in agreement, from a Democrat president, but I must admit that old Harry Truman was 100% correct in both his historical accuracy and in his remarkable prescience in regards to the well known propensities of “governments” to morph over some period of time from the “faithful servant” into the “fearful master”, mainly because the citizens of those governments were lulled into complacency by those old ‘siren songs’: “Let the Government Do It”, or “The Government Will Take Care Of You”. Uh huh. Sure it will.

The utterly humiliating saga of a high-altitude Chinese surveillance "balloon" successfully traversing the entire North American continent, only to be shot down off the South Carolina coast after completing its intelligence-gathering voyage, ought to serve as a wake-up call for America's decadent ruling class. At Newsweek, Paul du Quenoy sagely compared the affair to the young West German pilot Mathias Rust's successful 1987 landing of his small Cessna just outside Moscow's Red Square, a similarly "irreparable blight" wherein a "sclerotic empire's air defense systems stood powerless at the sight of an airborne foreign intruder."
