NC Congressman Walter B. Jones Moved to Hospice Care

FARMVILLE – After missing votes starting in July 2018, Republican Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-03) was granted a leave of absence from the House in December due to an undisclosed illness. In January the esteemed congressman from Eastern North Carolina fell and broke his hip, requiring surgery. Over the weekend, WITN reported that Congressman Jones has been moved to hospice care.

WASHINGTON (January 29, 2019) — Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Office of Water Assistant Administrator David Ross released the following statement:
“Despite what is being reported, EPA has not finalized or publicly issued its PFAS management plan, and any information that speculates what is included in the plan is premature. The agency is committed to following the Safe Drinking Water Act process for evaluating new drinking water standards, which is just one of the many components of the draft plan that is currently undergoing interagency review.”

South Carolina Policy Council Legislative Update

This marks the fourth legislative week of 2019, and several important bills are building momentum in the House and Senate.
On the floor, the Senate will take up a bill that increases the South Carolina Research Authority’s budget by doubling the cap on available tax credits for the “Industry Partnership Trust Fund” (from $6 million to $12 million). It would also prevent SCRA board members from receiving this credit, a conflict of interest that is currently legal. The House does not have have any bills scheduled at this time.
