Lawmakers Invited Guests Asked to Report on Flag Issue
The Sixteenth Regiment, Sons of Confederate Veterans, in Greenville, honors a unit by that designation composed mostly of men from Greenville and Furman University. The camp had a record turnout at their regular June meeting last Thursday night at the Phoenix Inn. Camp 36 has some 200 active members, however several members of other Upstate camps and non-members were also in attendance.
The scheduled speaker was canceled and the meeting was devoted to discussion of attacks on the Confederate battle flag charged with political expediency. The program change was made with short notice and several Upstate lawmakers were invited.

Defeating ISIS and Restoring America's Greatness
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
A Presentation by John Warren to Republican Women and their Guests
Lima One Capital CEO John Warren, who served as a United States Marine Corps officer in Iraq, was the featured speaker at the Greenville County Republican Women’s Club Annual Americanism program at the Poinsett Club.
Warren discussed how the United States could defeat ISIS and restore our nation’s greatness.
Since the economy is the engine that fuels our national defense, Warren said we must first “control federal spending, reform the tax code and entitlements and repeal damaging regulations.”
He discussed the importance of small business in the economy. He said the 26 million businesses with 500 employees or less employ half of the working Americans.

Haley, Obama Link Murders to Flag and Southern Heritage
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
(Analysis of a Continuing Tragedy)
It was not unexpected to hear President Obama blame the murders of nine Charleston church goers on guns and Southerners because of their history of slavery and “Jim Crow.”
It was surprising and extremely disappointing, however, to see South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley rush out on Monday and link the murders and the deranged murderer with the Confederate battle flag and the Palmetto State’s Southern Heritage.
Governor Haley can be forgiven for her ignorance of factual history, however it was below the dignity of her office to use this vicious tragedy to justify tramping on the memory of Southern patriots and scoring political points on the backs of native South Carolineans.
It appears that Governor Haley has created a steamroller effect and, therefore, there will be little or no opposition from the lawmakers. Southern Heritage groups have been blindsided and will have little opportunity to organize opposition.

Republicans Split Over Obamatrade Fast Track
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Voters Angry and Threatening Reprisals for those Who Vote for Fast Track Authority for Obama
An odd combination of liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans handed President Obama and the Republican leadership a stunning defeat when they defeated TAA, the Trade Adjustment Assistance by an overwhelming vote of 302 to 126. The House narrowly passed TPA, the Trade Promotion Authority by a vote of 219 to 211. House Speaker Bayner promised to attempt to get enough Democrat and Republican votes to pass the TAA by Tuesday, June 16.
The Obama Administration is employing the same tactics they used to pass Obamacare through the Congress. There is no time to read the proposed legislation. In fact much of it is secret and out of sight of members of Congress. The big difference is that Obamacare was passed by a Lame Duck Democrat Congress. This Obamatrade legislation has pulled in the Republican Congressional leadership.

Paxton Challenged Council on “Secret” Building Plan
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Citizen Ed Paxton, who gives Greenville County Council carefully worded advice at almost every meeting, set his aim on the two-year budget to be approved at the June 16 meeting with little public knowledge of what is involved.
Paxton has accused Council members of allowing the County Administrator to make decisions on large expenditures without the elected representatives of the people and their constituents being fully informed.
According to Paxton, the budget under consideration contains $20 million for construction of a building the Council has not publicly approved.
The County Administrator and certain members of Council are apparently working toward building a high-rise office building for county offices. It has been alleged that mayor Knox White and insider developers want the site of the current County offices for development, making it necessary for the County to move.

Christie Would-Be Advocate of Compromise, Means Test Government Benefits
- By Bob Dill, Publisher
Christie would rebuild National Defense, enhance intelligence services and strongly support the Patriot Act
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie strolled into Timmy’s Country Ham House last Wednesday talking and more than an hour later strolled out talking.
Governor Christie is a tough talker with a charming personalty. He moved around in a small circle in the midst of a friendly crowd of more than 200 people giving his standard campaign speech and answering questions. The somewhat controversial governor thinks quickly on his feet and is skillful at modifying questions to his liking.
He began by talking about the necessity to deal with entitlements, a topic he said the other Presidential candidates will not touch. He proposed means testing Social Security and reducing benefits for individuals earning in excess of $200,000 annually.
