![Haley Burton from Travelers Rest was presented the Cline School of Music Outstanding Senior in Music Award at a recent annual awards ceremony held on the North Greenville University campus. The award, chosen by the Cline School of Music faculty, is given to a senior music major who achieves the highest level of performance and academic excellence and maintains a GPA of 3.5 or better. ![The Zach Bishop Ars Excellentia Award at North Greenville University is given to an outstanding senior in the art department who displays the spiritual, artistic, and academic skills of an exemplary Christian artist. The award was named in memory of Zach Bishop, a former NGU art student who would have graduated in 2012 from NGU’s studio art program. Bishop died in 2011 from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (EDS type IV) which is a genetic disorder that affects the collagen found in human connective tissue. This year’s Zach Bishop Ars Excellentia Award was presented to Jordan Hurley from Taylors. GCS Board of Trustees Unanimously Approve FY 20 Budget

Tuesday, the Greenville County Schools Board of Trustees unanimously approved the administration’s recommended FY 20 General Fund Budget. The $668.4 million budget increases teacher pay, reduces elementary class sizes, ensures a 30 minute daily planning for all teachers and adds more counselors at the middle and high school levels.

Greenville Technical Charter High School Graduates 5 Associate Degrees

Greenville Technical Charter High School graduates 103 seniors today, 5 of whom have earned Associate Degrees along with their high school diplomas.
Greenville Technical Charter High School, a non-merit public charter school and middle college, celebrates its 2019 graduates at a commencement ceremony at Furman University today at 4:30 PM. Eighty-five percent of the students of the class of 2019 took at least one college course while in high school and altogether completed 2,883 college credit hours with a staggering 54.5% of seniors earning 24 or more college credit hours. Five of the students earned an Associates degree: Jadin Beek, Brylan Hoxworth, Yazmin Martinez, Austin Meadows, and Manuela Velez.

Knights of Columbus Gives to Washington Center

The Knights of Columbus Catholic fraternal benefit society has long been a benevolent benefactor for Washington Center. Recently funds were awarded for physical therapy mobility equipment through the Knight’s Hope Grant. Also, the school received an additional donation to support the various activities and programs for the student population with special needs. Washington Center is grateful for these community supporters who have the heart of generosity.

Tigerville, SC -- North Greenville University (NGU) has joined the more than 500 colleges and universities that have signed agreements to participate in the Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program). This program, installed in 2009, is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008 with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). It is part of the revised GI Bill ™ which provides financial support for Post-9/11 veterans.

Greenville Symphony Orchestra EdReach Program Comes to Washington Center

Tuesday, May 14th, Washington Center was privileged to host three members of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, as part of its EdReach Program to Greenville County Schools.
Steven Wilson, Principal Trombonist, Ian Bracchitta, Assistant Principal Double Bass player, and Daniel Kirkpatrick, Principal Timpanist, demonstrated their amazing playing skills and versatility by performing a delightful program of familiar movie and TV themes, as well as jazz favorites including a piece by famous American jazz composer and band leader, Duke Ellington.

We hope they will utilize a healthy dose of discernment along with this knowledge, as well as an eventual wisdom that will be based on foundational truth rather than fleeting opinion. A Commencement Address For The Nation
Dr. Everett Piper is the president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University (OKWU). He is the author of Why I Am a Liberal, and Other Conservative Ideas and the viral op-ed, “This is not a Day Care. It’s a University!” In 2015 he received the Jeanne Kirkpatrick Award for Academic Freedom from the Bradley Foundation and the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) Award. He has been featured on FOX & Friends, NBC Today! Show, Varney & Co., The O’Reilly Factor, The Glenn Beck Show, and a host of other radio and television venues. Piper also writes routinely for a number of publications. A native of Hillsdale, Michigan, Dr. Piper, his wife, and their two sons have served as OKWU’s First Family since August of 2002. He actively participates on a variety of councils relating to cultural engagement and public policy.
