Craft Day at Washington Center

Washington Center’s Craft Day was a huge success. Families and friends attended the annual event to purchase student-made treasures ranging from food to jewelry. Cakewalks, musical fun, bubbles and treats added to the festivities. Christ Church and Legacy Early College volunteers assisted Washington Center students with shopping and sales. Proceeds will fund classroom projects, activities and trips.
Cal Thomas Speaks on Christian Schooling at Exodus Mandate Banquet

Conservative pundit Cal Thomas spoke Thursday in Columbia at the Exodus Mandate 20th anniversary banquet, and the 500th anniversary of the Reformation and Christian education. Rev. E. Ray founded Moore Exodus Mandate to promote home schooling and Christian education. Approximately 300 people heard Cal Thomas, a former Fox News Network commentator currently syndicated in newspapers and radio across America, speak on the importance of Christian parents withdrawing their children from the secular educational system.
NGU’s Tomberlin Joins PurrCussion, Carolina Panthers Drumline

Tigerville, SC – Chase Tomberlin, a senior music major from Greer, has more going on in his life than just going to class and studying. He has a part-time job, but not just any part-time job. He travels two times a week, maybe more, to Charlotte, NC to rehearse with the Carolina Panthers PurrCussion drumline, a percussion ensemble that performs during every Carolina Panthers home game.
“Being on the sideline of an NFL game is a lot of fun,” said Tomberlin.
He heard about the drumline from a friend he taught with through North Greenville Indoor Percussion, a non-profit youth percussion ensemble sponsored by North Greenville University. He auditioned in April, shortly after the end of the Indoor season.
Greenville County Schools Hall of Fame Accepting Nominations

Greenville County Schools is accepting nominations for the GCS Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame honors men and women who have graduated Greenville County Schools and have made substantial or significant contributions at the local, regional, national, or international levels in any appropriate area of endeavor such as, but not limited to, academia and education, arts, athletics, business, media, public service, philanthropy, medicine, military, or science.
The deadline to receive nominations is Monday, May 1, 2017. The awards presentation will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2017 at a dinner hosted by the Greenville County Schools Foundation.
NGU Bids Farewell to Two Longtime English Professors

Tigerville – North Greenville University has announced the retirement of two longtime English professors – Cathy Sepko and Julia Drummond – at the end of the Fall 2016 semester.
Sepko, who has served as a professor of English at NGU since 1996, served as the keynote speaker for the fall commencement held on Friday, Dec. 9. She has held various faculty positions, including dean of the College of Humanities, faculty chair, and faculty marshal, during her time at NGU.
Sepko has also been directly involved in the creation of a number of degree programs, academic departments, and several courses, such as Advanced Grammar and Style, American Folklore, Literature Theory, Appalachian Literature, and Honors Program seminars.
Nathan Ellenwood Named PlanFIRST Player of the Game

Nathan Ellenwood was named the PlanFIRST Player of the Game for the Bob Jones University Bruins men’s basketball team on Friday, Dec. 9.
Ellenwood is a freshman business administration major from Greenville. Ellenwood had 17 points, 10 rebounds, and 5 assists as the Bruins fell to Piedmont College 95-91.
PlanFIRST is an asset management and financial services company located in Greenville, South Carolina.
BJU Displays Nativity Scene

The star spotlight directs all of Greenville to the Bob Jones University Creche which was unveiled on December 2, 2011. This work includes seven pieces for the Christmas season. The larger-than-life figures (some are 7 feet tall) were carved from solid blocks of polystyrene. The stable is about 14 feet high. The homes and storefronts tower about 21 feet at the highest point. Doug Young has been sculpting for almost thirty years. He’s best known for sculpting Shoeless Joe Jackson, Gethsemane and The Patriot, Della Gillette. He currently resides in Taylors, SC.
