The Doctrine of Tyranny Revisited
- By Frank Hall - Greenville, SC
Eighty years ago I was a seven-year-old boy with a twelve-year-old brother. We had chores to do, so we didn’t get a lot of playing time, but when we did have time to play we did what Charlie wanted to do because he was bigger, stronger, and tougher. He practiced the Doctrine of Tyranny, not the Doctrine of Shared Power. I didn’t like this arrangement, and several times it erupted in fist fights. I knew Charlie would mop the floor with me but I didn’t care. I wanted, even demanded, a more equal say-so in our activities.

The Best Way To Stop A Bad Guy With A Gun Is A Good Guy With A Gun
- By Allan E. Brown - Greenville, SC
During my 26 years as a police officer for the city of Greenville, I never considered the average citizen and his guns (military sty1e or otherwise) a threat to my safety. Thegreatest risk to police and the public is a changing demographic that reflects loss of traditional norms and standards, and a dysfunctional judiciary, including our U.S. Supreme Court that has made consistent, timely applications of the death penalty impossible.

School Shootings
- By Frank Hall - Greenville, SC
The main topic of the day seems to be the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting on Dec 14th• Can you believe that one lone 24-year-old “man” violated the rights of 26 people, 20 children and 6 adults, disrespecting their status as human beings, and treating them like “stuff,’ trash, to be abused and discarded as of no value? The police say he shot each victim from three to eleven times. Why did he shoot them so many times? Was it some macabre sense of compassion? Did he see them wallowing in their blood, screaming in pain, begging someone to rescue them? Did he shoot them again and again until they remained quiet, to put them out of their misery, like we would an injured wild animal? Or did he stand belligerently over them and mutter through clenched teeth, “Shut up. Kid. When I shoot someone they are supposed to roll over quietly and die. How dare you intrude upon my auditory space with your pitiful begging for mercy!”

Reap As One Sows
- By Bill Ivy - John's Island, SC
Iran has stated from the beginning that its nuclear exploration was for the development of energy, and not for the development of its war machine. Israel already has nuclear weapons gained through the United States Government, its ally. If Iran sought to have nuclear weapons could it not have approached its Big Boy ally Russia, being a simple case of, “What’s good for the goose is good for the gander”?

Please, NO Lying Contests
- By Frank Hall - Greenville, SC
If the Democrats say something is white it probably is black. If the Democrats say something is sweet it probably is sour. If the Democrats say, “This bill is the mainstay of our war on poverty,” it will probably increase, not decrease, poverty and dependence on government “charity.” If the Democrats say, “This bill will decrease pollution in our lakes and rivers,” it most likely won’t decrease pollution significantly, but it will force polluters to give big bucks to incumbent politicians’ re-election funds in order to obtain waivers and permits to keep on polluting.
