Bill Would Create Another Legislative Guarantee for Utility Debt
- By SC Policy Council
A bill currently in a Senate subcommittee would guarantee a refinancing of SCANA’s debt by authorizing a new ratepayer charge.
Under S.110, the Public Service Commission (PSC – the utility regulatory body accountable to lawmakers) could authorize SCANA to refinance its remaining debt from the failed nuclear project, or to refinance utility costs from natural disasters. The process is called securitization, and the debt would be guaranteed by law.

Y’all All Know If It Were Conservatives, the Media Would Be Pouncing On This
- By Erick Erickson - The Resurgent
If a conservative writer were married to someone who worked in a nonpartisan position within, say, a White House office or a Supreme Court office or even the Architect of the Capitol’s office and the conservative writer were taking deeply critical, partisan shots at the President, Architect of the Capitol, or a Supreme Court Justice, the media would have a field day.
Let’s not forget the media went wall to wall driving a girl from her job on Capitol Hill for daring to go onto her personal Facebook page and criticize Barack Obama’s daughters at a public event. Do you really think the media would not attack if a conservative blogger or journalist were taking regular shots at Supreme Court Justices and was married to someone who worked for the Court?

Congress Gets in Line, New Ad Draws One
- By Tony Perkins
"This is an easy one," Kellyanne Conway said, watching the line of Republicans snake around the House chamber to sign the discharge petition to end infanticide. If she were in a burning building, or trapped in a hot car, we'd all know what to do. But suddenly, when she's in the womb or taking her first breaths, it's a question. Americans have answered it. How will Democrats?

Throwback Thursday: The Forgotten Santee Cooper Oversight Board
- By The Nerve
This week, the House passed two bills dealing with Santee Cooper: one that creates a legislative oversight committee for the state-owned utility, and one that instructs the Santee Cooper joint study committee to oversee the process of selling it.
The problem with both bills? That neither oversight nor the selling process is the role of the legislature – in fact, the legislative committee is the biggest obstacle to a truly beneficial sale of the taxpayers’ asset.
