History Does Teach Us To Hope

Those of you who have read my “ancient” columns in the now “extinct” print copy version of The Times Examiner (from 1999 to July, 2018), and in its digital version since July of 2018, know how much I love classical music. But as I’ve said several times, I also enjoy other genres of music, particularly the “Big Band” music of the 1930’s and 1940’s (Glenn Miller—oh yeah), Dixie Land jazz, the music and songs of George and Ira Gershwin, the music of Sigmund Romberg, and especially much of the wonderful music of Rogers and Hammerstein from their great Broadway musicals over many years; and I adore the “old-timey” music of George M. Cohan, that “Yankee Doodle Dandy” who wrote hundreds of great songs for his musicals over the decades that stretched over the first half of the 20th century. And I love the music of the Christian Church, which is a musical genre all its own. All of this glorious music was written during “the good old days when music was musical”. Too bad that it isn’t so in our day and age.

The Fascists Who Live Among Us
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
"Hail to the State," or "Sieg Heil" to "The Fuehrer!" The Italian Fascists and the German Nazis were brothers under the skin. Left Wing extremists who tried to spread their poison over the world. Their descendants are doing the same today! It's called "The New World Order" or "The Great Reset." But it's the same old totalitarianism!
“If you do not take an interest in the affairs of your government, then you are doomed to live under the rule of fools!” - PLATO (427 B.C.-347 B.C.)
Most Americans have heard the word “fascist” bandied about quite a lot in recent years. Every so-called “mainstream media” outlet is proclaiming that fascists are evil racists (they are both), noxious “right wing extremists” (nope) who are in league with former President Trump (not true) and his “bad, bad, bad” conservative/populist/Republican allies in the ranks of “The Basket of Deplorables”, as that truly despicable Deep Stater, Comrade Hillary Clinton, labeled us. (Before his untimely death, no less an authority than Rush Limbaugh said that Hillary was a communist, so I’m just using her appropriate title).

A $Billion Here, A $Billion There – It’s Only Money!
- By W.H. Lamb

A long time ago, before there even was the United States of America, we had a lot of angry folks living in what were then British Colonies. One of them came up with a “catchy” slogan, and a lot of the other angry people thought that it made a lot of sense. Eventually, they got so perturbed that they revolted against the King and his political cronies in faraway England, and established their own new country—the U.S.A. You recall James Otis’ “slogan” that set them off, I’m sure: “TAXATION WITHOUT REPRESENTATION IS TYRANNY”! Indeed it was. Sad to say, taxation with representation (our present state of affairs here in the U.S.A.) has turned out to be an even greater tyranny than that which so upset our Revolutionary ancestors that they wrote our country’s birth certificate, our “Declaration of Independence”, and “threw the rascals out.”

This Is A Constitutional Republic! Or Is It?
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
Last time we discussed the political spectrum, i.e. what forms of political thought were on the left, center, and right of that imaginary line. We concluded that the U.S., originally established as a Constitutional Republic in 1787, was about in the middle of that spectrum, or somewhat to the right on that spectrum (we’ve traditionally always been described accurately as a “center right” nation). But are we truly a “center right” nation any longer? Increasingly, I’m confused as to where the government of our country really fits, and I don’t think that I’m alone in my confusion. To muddy the issue even more, we’re constantly reminded by the “talking heads” on our alphabet “news” broadcasts and the cable news “gurus” that the U.S. is a “Democracy”. Most of them speak out of purposely induced upon them ignorance, but a few of them surely know better. So what are we—a “democracy” or a “constitutional republic”? Or something else?

What Is The “Political Spectrum”?
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
Confusion reigns supreme in the puzzling and sometimes rancorous discussions of who or what is a “right winger” and a “left winger” in the realm of modern and often contentious and deliberately misleading American political debate. Most of us have been programmed for decades by the liberal “mainstream” (left-wing, fake news) media (most newspapers, ALL TV network news, talking “heads” on MOST cable news shows, etc.) to accept their incorrect descriptions that communists and socialists are “left-wing”, and fascists and Nazis and white supremacists are “right-wing”. Americans are often dismayed when they discover that what they’ve been told is truth by those they trusted is a semantic and political deception and an outright factual LIE!

Don’t Let The Moonbats Destroy Us!
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
Beware! Moonbats are carriers of the deadly "Obama Coccus Stupidicus" virus, which is invariably fatal to traditional Americanism if exposed to it over a long period of time!
We’ve all seen them in person or on video: Little flying mammals who come out around dusk in search of insects or fruit to eat. A few of them seek out animal blood to drink, and are called “vampire” bats. Most people are afraid of bats (which don’t get in your hair), but except for the remote possibility of being bitten by a rabid bat, they are harmless to humans and generally are beneficial to mankind. All except one. The moonbat is truly dangerous to human safety and happiness because it is wingless, cunning, untrustworthy, and often resorts to perfidy, subterfuge, mendacity, and violence to survive and attack its opponents. The more powerful of that nasty flock have NO qualms over harassing or destroying any living being that dares to oppose their dark agenda of destruction and lust for power and control. Above all other living creatures, the moonbat is to be both feared and loathed, for it has sold its soul to the Prince of Darkness, and spends its life seeking others to deceive and destroy!

We Are Living In “The Twilight Zone”!
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
I’ll wager that some of you also feel like we’re living in some kind of “reincarnation” of Rod Sterling’s great old TV series, ‘The Twilight Zone’, where things never were what they appeared to be. For certain we’re no longer living in ‘normal times’ (if indeed we ever did), nor are we living among a population of mostly ‘rational’ people, sad to say. What is our modern ‘twilight zone’? Plainly, it’s a formerly great and Christian-oriented nation still euphemistically called the “United” States, where once plain-as-day and totally accepted FACTS are denied and absolutely preposterous propositions and outrageous beliefs are asserted by hordes of mouth-breathing buffoons with “straight faces to a sea of nodding heads”, as William Allen recently observed in Impact (a publication of D.James Kennedy Ministries).

The Ordeal of Capt. Eddie Rickenbacker – A Tale of Courage
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
Above - Captain Eddie Rickenbacker (1890-1973) beside his "Spad" fighter, Fall of 1918. The fuselage insignia was the famous "Hat in the Ring" of the 94th AERO Squadron of which he was the leader. He became America's "Ace of Aces" with 26 German aircraft shot down, for which he was awarded 10 "Distinguished Service Crosses" and "The Medal of Honor."
(I’m indebted to the following two sources for the basics of this story of great courage and determination to survive, a story mostly unknown to Americans of today—but well known to me because Rickenbacker was one of the “heroes” of my youth, and from both of which I quote freely):
- An article titled: “World War 1: American Ace Eddie Rickenbacker”, from THOUGHTCO.COM, by Kennedy Hickman, March 19, 2018;

These Are Some Of My Favorite Things
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
I’ve written a couple of versions of this article over the years, and it always gave me a few chuckles to think about some of my “favorite things”. In this time of stress and demands by our ‘wanna-be” political masters for “societal change” (whether we like it or not), perhaps you’ll get a few much needed laughs to brighten your day, if only for a moment or two. Many of us recall, with lots of nostalgia and fondness, I’m sure, that great musical film, “The Sound of Music”, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. We saw it in Charlotte, N.C. for the very first time in 1966, and I confess we were delighted by the wonderful music and songs of the late Rodgers and Hammerstein (who are among my favorite modern song/music composers), and the interesting script, based only VERY LOOSLEY on the real history of the Von Trapp Family Singers of Austria, prior to WW11. The character of Maria, the young orphan novice who would “never become a nun”, was played by that great actress and singer, Julie Andrews, who is now 86 years old but still partially active, although I don’t believe that she sings any longer, her once magnificent FOUR OCTAVE voice damaged years ago by a botched surgery to remove nodules from her vocal cords.

Do You Really Value Your Freedom And Independence? Well, Do You? A July 4th Message to Contemplate
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
Their "Independence Day" celebrations will be gone with the wind if the Fascists who run the World Economic Forum and the Council of Foreign Relations have their way!
“Courage, then, my countrymen, our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind, an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty.” - Founding Father, Samuel Adams
It’s a truly sad commentary on this present time in our nation’s history that a sizeable portion of Americans are so ignorant of their own past that many of them not only have never heard of Samuel Adams (the patriot not the beer) or other of our Founders and have never read their words, but are totally unaware of the history of the time wherein the country they inhabit was born, from which country Americans declared their independence, and are uncertain as to the century in which those events occurred. Next week these same Americans will celebrate “July 4th—Independence Day”—virtually in the dark as to just what “Independence Day” really means to Americans alive today and, in a broader sense, what it meant to those who have gone before us and who sacrificed to bring about or keep that “Independence” of the U.S.—independence that many on this troubled planet aspire to come among us to enjoy—independence that sinister domestic and foreign enemies seek to take from us.

Socialism Will Always Be A Failure!
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
“Socialism, along with its illegitimate son communism, is advancing around the world. Socialism appeals to man’s desires to get something for nothing through the agency of an omnipotent State government.
…Under socialism, the individual is given little incentive to invent, produce a better product, or to be more efficient so a product can be sold at a lower price and thus benefit all of society. The State determines everything. Socialism is rarely democratic; that is, the people have little to say about who gets elected to office….”

Adios, Common Sense. We’ll Miss You!
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
A few years ago a friend sent me an e-mail that ostensibly was an “obituary”, but not for a person. It was for that eminently practical commodity we’ve always referred to as ‘common sense'. I’ve changed it a bit, and I don’t know who the original author was, but let me share it with you:
THE DEATH OF COMMON SENSE
“Today we mourn the passing of an old, old friend, whose name was ‘Common Sense’. He was with us for so long that no one alive today knows for sure just how ‘old’ he was, since his birth records were lost long ago in the maze of Washingtonian ‘red tape’. He’ll be missed, though—that’s for certain. Common Sense will be remembered, at least by the more “experienced” citizenry, as having taught us valuable lessons, such as:

Memories Should Never Fade Away
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
We all have them—memories, that is. Inevitably, some of them may fade with the passing of the years because nature is often cruel as our brain cells succumb to time’s attacks. But many of our precious recollections of the past stay with us for a lifetime. This truth was emphasized to me several years ago when, on a local radio station, I listened to what I believe to be one of the most beautiful and haunting secular songs I’ve ever heard. It brought tears to my eyes then, not so much for any memories it stirred in me, sad to say, but for the depth of emotion projected by the man who was singing it. His name is John McDermott, and he was the founder of the famous singing group known as “The Irish Tenors”. I urge you to enter “John McDermott UTube” on your browser, and click on the video of his performance of “The Old Man”, a beautiful song he sang in memory of his late father. You will see, and hear, a truly special performance, I assure you. It still brings tears to my eyes whenever I watch it, as it brought tears to McDermott’s eyes as he sang it. (Look for the version where John is sitting while he sings, and is holding his late father’s walking stick and cap).

“Q”: Quack, Quisling, or Conspiracy Theory? - Part 2
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
Has “Q” Finally Been Identified?
Last time I discussed what has been called the “Q” Phenomenon, and I reviewed a brief history of a topic that has, or at least had, much of the country conjecturing about just who “Q” really was, and what were his/their motives. We also opened the “sensitive” (to many “Q” fans) topic of how American patriots should define “Q”—considering that he (they) hasn’t posted any more drops since December 8, 2020, and considering the poor “track record” of the accuracy of all those posts. So is “Q” a quack, a quisling, or are we dealing with “conspiracy theory”—OR a true conspiracy for good or ill-- OR an actual force for freedom in this rapidly disintegrating nation? Making a call on this is fraught with many questions, more than a few suspicions of “Q’s” motivation, and a realization that a satisfactory explanation that will satisfy all my readers is well nigh impossible. So let me give you my conjectures and a somewhat “educated opinion”.

“Q”: Quack, Quisling, or Conspiracy Theory? – Part 1
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
Before we dig into the “Q” phenomenon, let’s define some terms:
- QUACK: Obviously, the usual sound that a duck makes; but in this context, the derisive term aimed at a member of a profession, such as an attorney or, most often, a doctor, when it is discovered that said “professional” was never trained in that discipline but has been practicing it for a long time, many times injuring his/her victims either financially or medically, or both;
- QUISLING: A traitor who collaborates with an enemy force occupying one’s country. Named after Vidkun Quisling, a Norwegian army officer who founded Norway’s Fascist Party in 1933. He met with Adolph Hitler in December 1939 and urged him to invade and occupy Norway, which Hitler did in April, 1940. Quisling served as the puppet or figurehead President of Norway for the Nazis from 1940 to 1945. After Norway’s liberation in 1945, Quisling was executed for treason;
- CONSPIRACY THEORY: Something that is believed by either a small or large group of people, sometimes true and sometimes not true, and usually called “silly” or “ridiculous” by those at whom the “facts” are aimed, and which are usually put forth to try to explain the “true story” behind a particular real world event or an unfavorable shift in the culture of a nation or nations.

Liberty’s Statue Is Weeping!
- By W.H. Lamb
- Category: W.H. Lamb
Before I begin this plunge into the heart of liberal dogma, let me state for the record that I am not against a degree of legal, restricted, and needful immigration. The vast majority of Americans living today had ancestors who emigrated from some other country and into the U.S. in the past. I am one of them, for both my maternal grandfather and grandmother came, LEGALLY, from the country of Croatia early in the 20th century, and I’m grateful that they did. America has been peopled by, and generally benefitted from, immigrants who came here from mostly European countries (with some exceptions) over much of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Except for some of the immigrants from Oriental nations, these European immigrants usually assimilated quickly, or at least their children did, and most became naturalized, proud and useful Americans, the vast majority of whom contributed much more to our nation that they took from it. Unfortunately, the same cannot honestly be claimed in regards to the disparate dregs of humanity who, legally or mostly otherwise, are entering our nation today.
